Easy? who said that? Simple maybe, the simpler the better, but rarely easy.

My trading is going well and I let others copy my trades for free

I've yet to see an algorithmic system that performs as well as the simple - but not always easy - method that many Chicago floor traders use. Often today they're "former" floor traders cleaning up on the Globex. The approach is more quantitative than technical. For instance, the current upswing...

    Extreme Futures Daytrading

Your posts have been interesting. They remind me of my own prolonged and unsuccessful period of self-education from 1983 till 1992. When I finally found a philosophy, method and tactics that worked, I became a non-stop winner. This winning strategy, of which I showed you a quick example, is...

Truly said! I think we have to be selective with these whiz-bang algebraic tools. But some are brilliant.

    Daytrading FTSE Futures

Good idea. I see the present upswing in the Sep TF has added 69.80, compared with 112.50 on the Sep ES - approx. $5625 per contract on the TF and $3545 on the ES. Much higher beta. But the TF seems to trade only about 10% of the volume of the ES, which could be a problem in a fast market.

You got a grip on it quickly! There's a little more to it of course. The retraced low that became the initial stop didn't take effect until the market took out the previous high at 1955.00. That had the effect of confirming previous support at 1937.25. In addition, someone trading the daily time...

Sigma-D wins a convert! Well, maybe not a total convert but I did wake up today thinking, "Y'know, he's right about John Ehlers, Cynthia Kase and the others. Who needs the complexity?" So really I am in your camp in that I prefer simple, even elegant methods to the sort of bafflegab we so...

    Extreme Futures Daytrading

Basic Swing Method Are you aware of the method many futures swing traders use to appraise a trade and, if it passes muster, determine entry price, stop and price target? The attached chart is the Sep ES as at Aug 25 with an adaptive Bollinger Bands overlay. The dotted cyan line is a non-lag...

Ehlers without Flunitrazepam If your Rohypnol has the typical 24 hour half life you'll be Mr. Mellow till this time tomorrow. In truth I'm not generally very serious but my rhetorical question was sincerely meant. From the viewpoint of the swing trader, little has changed. To be sure, there's...

Swing & Position Trading Technical Analysis Predictive Indicators

Sigma-D (lovely name!), you wrote, "Look around? What the hell does that mean? I asked you for empirical proof that his methodologies and software products work." It means you'll have to do your own due diligence. I'm a trader, not a service provider. >>"He's just another pie-in-the-sky...

John Ehlers The comment is not a claim; it's an observation. Just look around. In particular, check out his history with TASC and Futures magazines. Many "gurus" would demand serious money for the sort of knowledge that Ehlers freely gives away. If his work were not of value to stocks and...

Swing & Position Trading Technical Analysis Predictive Indicators

Your comment poses a paradox. I strongly agree on some points and disagree just as strongly on others. John Ehlers' very considerable reputation didn't come out of thin air. He has earned it by providing methodologies and software products that really work. His prominence in technical analysis...

    Daytrading FTSE Futures

Thanks. I appreciate the vigilance. BTW would you agree on the point of preferring the E-Mini S&P to the other index futures. The YM has comparable beta but the ES generally trades in larger volume, ergo often with better fills. Cheers, valleyvintner

    Daytrading FTSE Futures

Truth to tell, I didn't notice that! Notwithstanding the ten year interval, the information is as valid now as it was then. There's rather more to it, of course, but I was addressing the matter of stops and targets. We still don't see much in the way of filtering in the systems described here...

    Daytrading FTSE Futures

I think I can help you with the stops and targets. Neither stocks nor futures trend in a straight line when they swing. They zig zag. On an upswing you see a series of higher highs. The reverse, of course, on a downswing. Using Bollinger Bands, which are really an implementation of standard...
