Guarding against a strengthening in sterling

Thanks John. Excuse my ignorance, but does that mean that I open a position via IDEALPRO such as the following order that I previewed? BUY 17,000 GBP.USD Forex Bid: 1.49505 Ask: 1.49525 Amount: 25,411.10 USD Commission: 2.50 USD Total: 25,413.60 The preview doesn't seem to suggest a big...

Guarding against a strengthening in sterling

Thanks for all of this input. I thought I had posted another message in this thread a couple of days ago, but it didn't seem to be applied. Basically, somebody suggested that the following link might be useful: http://www.retailinvestor.org/hedge.html Looking at it I thought that perhaps...

Guarding against a strengthening in sterling

Hi, I am based in the UK and have a portfolio which includes US stocks with a value of about 50,000 GBP. I am keen to maintain the portfolio, but I am concerned about sterling eventually strengthening against the dollar, and therefore reducing the sterling value of the portfolio (I will...

Thanks. I tried this with after purchasing the GBP on GBP.USD (IDEAL), but I get the following error: "Average cost orders not supported for this combination of exchange and security type" Is there something else that I need to do? If it is for information only I guess that I could just leave...

Converting currency using IB's Forex platform

Thanks. However I think that my situation is slightly different, I have funded the account in USD and I just want to be able to convert them to GBP. So, I start with no open positions and without having converted any cash, or made any profit in another currency. Thanks again.

Converting currency using IB's Forex platform

Hi, I have a question about converting currency using Interactive Broker's Forex platform. Basically, all I want to do is convert USD to GBP, and then be able to withdraw that GBP. I have tried on the demo system, by doing the following. * Bought 100,000 GBP via GBP.USD (IDEAL) * Then I have...
