2nd of September was the day!

Good call so far, Silver looks like it might be a bit more attractive than Gold and offer more bang for the buck. Still looking for a break of the previous recent highs though. Are you trading the futures only or do you get involved in stocks and ETFs too?

Swing/ trend following systems in August

Interesting. Do you just trade currencies?

    Your favourite quote.

Hope it hasn't been done already - "If you don't bet, you can't win. If you lose all your chips you can't bet" Larry Hite. Can be applied to life in general as well as trading.

The Single Best Book for Beginners

One book I always found interesting and containing some useful ideas is the free e-book "Phantom of the Pits". You can google it and get the link. I think there is a lot of sense in what he says with regards to trading and the general principles are sound, although I wouldn't necessarily...

2nd of September was the day!

I guess it depends on how you read the charts, but you could have a breakout of a wedge/ triangle formation occurring right now, if it closes up around here. It's all in the interpretation, I think.

Seeing this move right now as well. A little surprising given how equities and oil still heading down, but it does look like this move could be a big one. Especially as it is a seasonally strong time for Gold as well. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Do you mind telling us who these profitable traders are so we can sift out all the nonsense and head straight for their posts?

    thoughts from experienced hands wanted!

My advice would be to hope for the best but plan for the worst. Don't burn any bridges and keep doors open so that if you try it for a year and it doesn't work out then you can still get back on the career ladder. I think you would need at least one year's worth of living expenses covered...

Set and forget or watch it like a hawk?

This can be a tough one. I have my rules and pretty much follow them consistently, but it does involve alot of self control when watching the movements of the markets during the day. So I do follow my rules but try and make it easier on myself by not having my P+L on the screen all the time...

One Method or One Market ?

Ok, fair enough. But setups aren't always indicator based, mine aren't.

One Method or One Market ?

Not sure why but it seems like there is a bias on here towards the one market approach. My approach has always been to have one setup applied to various diversified markets. I don't think the setups get efficient marketed out, but you can get periods of nasty drawdown, like the last three...

Swing/ trend following systems in August

Anyone else found August to be a bit of a tricky month as far as swing trading on a trend following basis goes? It seems like every time I jump on a nice looking trend it reverses pretty quickly. It is to be expected on occasion I guess, but this month seems to have been particularly wacky. I...
