Successful full-time traders - anonymous interviews for a serious book

Hi Guy, Enjoyed the book. Did you deliberately concentrate on equity traders/investors? And do you thing this reflects the majority of professional private traders out there? I ask because I've compounded my capital at over 20% pa over the last 12 years, on a very amateur basis, betting on...

Is it possible to daytrade with a spread betting broker?

My experience is that daytrading indexes with SB firms can be done profitably but I've never made more than 1 trade per day, started early in the day and attempted to capture trend days.

If you're in the UK you can get hold of the British Library's copy via your local library for a couple of pounds.

Picking a book ? How do you take the leap of faith ?

My experience: 1. Books by or about actual traders are indeed the best but don't look to them for a detailed methodology. Your method will change over time as either you or the markets change. 2. The best information that I have incorporated into my trading I found for free on the internet...

Did you ever notice that most traders are highly intelligent?

Let's put some numbers to this. My IQ score is typically somewhere in the regon of 130-135. I've been trading part-time for 10.75 years and my compounded annual return is 21% with one losing year (-14% from memory). So, a modest correlaton between intelligence and returns. On the other hand...

Profit Strategy: Trailing Stop or Price Objective?

In my experience you can use a trailing stop for long term trend following successfully. For shorter periods performance is improved by combining a trailing stop with targets (either a price, a time stop or both).

    Challenge: Profits from indicators :)

It looks like your trying to capture some trends so I would recommend currencies, bonds, STIRS, maybe the grains. Beware of softs - some trend well, others don't. Avoid stock indexes unless you decide on a very long time frame. Tom.

Is R:R ratio killing my edge?

Do some back testing. In my opinion your exit strategy is dependent on your entry strategy. For example you may find a target more usefuel for counter trend trading and a trailing stop more appropriate for trend following.

    Turtle Soup code confirmation

I have no idea about your code but I would point out that the Turtle Soup system was published in 1995 and was a method for fading the trading of the Turtles who were thought to buy at 20 day highs and sell at 20 day lows. There is almost certainly no trend follower doing that anymore. However...

It's not enough to be right: Managing the trade

I trade 4 systems: 1. Long term multi-market trend following. In the market most of the time so the exit becomes the entry 2. Medium term multi-market trend following. Exit is via a trailing stop or a time stop (i.e. if trade is x days old then exit). 3. A short-term divergence system for stock...

    Bleedin' Septic Tanks

I came to this thread because I do genuinely have a problem with my septic tank. Oh well. At least it was nice to find a crossword fan from the good old US of A. "I am not a rabid flag waver!!!" Solution: Ribald Fag.

    Pivot Point Reliability

I recently did some back testing to see which of the pivots (i.e. PP, R1, R2, S1, S2), today's open, yesterday's high, low, and close provided the best support or resistance for short term trading. My conclusion was that the most reliable was that day's open followed by the pivot point. Other...

    Commodities Trading Platform advice needed

EOD Data Gordon, For EOD data I use CSI (www.csidata.com) and have found them very reliable over the past 4 years. They also claim to be very accurate - I think a copy of a 'Futures' magazine article praising them is on the website. For TA I use Supercharts, a basic EOD version of Trade...
