I think you should think seriously about how much, in terms of percent, you can afford to risk. Ultimately it's your account versus the market. Risk of ruin.... If you get the balance wrong, you won't be around too long. Why not throw in a bit of common sense, in terms of stop location for good...

It sounds like your stop got hit with some slippage. That's trading. Best way of dealing with it is to anticipate it.
