It turns out it is the compliance review. I have done all the steps. They must only meet every month/quarter (on my second close request, it's been 4 weeks). IB is the hardest account I have ever had to close
I have been trying to close one of my IB accounts for over 12 months. I ring up and they say there is nothing in the account, but it still stays open. I see some small virtual positions, there and I am assuming that's the problem. What gives. My reaction is now to close my other IB accounts and...
I have been trying to close the first account for a long time now, including ringing IB. I was told to rationalise the Alpine Devices. However, this is proving a problem, witness no responses to this problem
I have three IB accounts, all linked to one Alpine Device. The first account as the original owner of the alpine device is the one I want to close. I also have another Alpine device as the original device on the last account opened. I was going to set up this device for the remaining 2 accounts...
I have some small forex positions in an old account. How do I close them? Ringing US IB is not a great answer for me, as i live outside their Business Time Zone
Yes I understand that, however, this is new legislation, that effectively says if a foreign bank is not recognised all payments to that bank are subject to a 30% with holding tax.
Hidden in the Obama legislation (HIRE) is the following 30 per cent withholding on payments to unrecognised foreign banks. I think it has taken effect on Jan 1. So, my question is if I wire funds from IB to a foreign bank is there a chance of having 30% with held? Which i would presumably only...
lumber has been a commodity star. $140 to $318. Whether this market bull market continues, lumber did indeed call the turn. Worth keeping an eye on as it may signal any down turn. When this "softs" thread gets excited it will be time to exit

Lumber, may turn out the star of the softs. A few limit up days, rumors of more mill cut backs and houses are still being built. Lumber needs only a small catalyst, given the general malaise in housing. The stimulus will need lumber as well. Some profit has gone in the roll overs, but all in...
I tell them, I am a discretionary, value, counter-cyclical, long term, commodity, futures trader. With luck, they will have moved away by then. One person, said, "it's good to have a hobby" broke me up
I think traders in this market for lumber are exhausted. That is, it has been hit by so much bad news:
"Earlier Wednesday, Commerce reported that seasonally adjusted housing starts in January were down 14.5% from December to 466,000 units, far worse than the 4.9% decline economists had...
There's just something about lumber.... "According to CRSP, only one industry had positive returns from 1930 through 1932: logging. The two stocks in that tiny sector, Diamond Match and Mengel Co., whittled out a cumulative gain of 40% for the three-year period. Diamond turned timber into...
I am looking at the bottom for lumber being made and the possibility of it being an indicator to a general market bottom. I agree building more house will not drag us out of this quagmire.
