    Simple Trading System

MA crossovers can be profitable <ignores bizarre last post> I'm with amnonco - I've proven to myself that MA crossovers can be profitable. Urban Jaekle demonstrates step by step in his book "Trading Systems"...

Capital gains tax to rise under coalition government

So from what's been said, it seems to me that if you make your primary living from trading and trades are fairly frequent, HMRC are likely to take the view that your profits are income and not capital gains. Makes sense. If that's the case, then regardless of an increase in CGT, surely...

Capital gains tax to rise under coalition government

Please forgive my newbie ignorance - but why's that, then? Is it not the case that all net profits from a trading account (apart from dividends) are taxable as capital gains? Are you assuming that anyone trading for a living is doing it via a corporation? <curious> cheers, m!chael.

    Ninjatrader - website gone/moved?

Thanks for that. Hmm, seems to be an ISP thing: Virgin Media and O2 have a DNS problem with the domain name, but T-Mobile gets to it OK. Only thing is, I don't really want to download Ninjatrader via my phone's GPRS modem... :/ Maybe these ISPs have blocked it. How strange. Never mind...

Software for backtesting and strategy development

Yes, it appears so. Many thanks for all the useful replies. Ninjatrader would be my first choice, but their website seems to be down. Never mind: I now have the last 2000 hours of the USD/EUR hourly in front of me in MT4, and there seems to be plenty of analytical toys in there to keep me...

Software for backtesting and strategy development

Thanks, Adamus! Not yet entirely sure whether I'll go for something mechanical, or something a little more discretionary: I can see pros and cons of both. What I do know is I've an aptitude for analytical and programming problems, so I might as well employ that in my trading, whether it's...

Software for backtesting and strategy development

Hi folks. Can anyone recommend free or inexpensive software and data sources that can be used for backtesting and strategy development? Being of a technical persuasion, scripting and/or APIs are attractive, but it's not clear to me whether those features are available on free/inexpensive...
