Why is this unsustainable for long periods, If a trader is winning more trades than he's losing on average, then the actual return made is totally dependent on the risk taken to achieve that return.

An inside bar is a candle with shadows which are completely within the range of the candle preceding it. A outside bar has shadows with which are longer than the candle preceding it.

i use an inside outside bar along side divergence at a significant S/R level, works well :) Oh and pin bars....occasionally
