Much harder than it sounds as these media pieces never tell you about all the red tape and costs involved in running a HF. All the nasty FSA regs to go through and you will need to raise $50mill to have a viable business that can cover it's costs. The use of massive leverage is also a media...

    Satellite data feeds?

BIS offer a satellite feed. I am not sure they are in much better financial shape than Tenfore but I think the feed is a little cheaper. Comstock also offer a satellite feed. It is quite expensive but you can be certain they wont go bust as they feed all of Interactive Data. Both of these...

    Qualifications needed?

Out of curiosity, what did they teach you at uni that was helpful for prop trading in a firm? I can't imagine what would be of practical use in most academic courses. A lot of trading in banks is just agency work and not that much fun.

Daily dow system (cantor should put me on commision!)

I think the bad Yahoo data must cause a lot of people to lose money. Best to test on accurate futures data to see if something really works.

    Emerging Markets - Russia

Am interested in looking into trading iTraxx, iBoxx index CDS but not single names. However, would need electronic trading via FIX or API and not sure if this is readily available yet. Currently taking at look around at CFD providers to see what market coverage is available so would be...
