    Trading in ISA's

I don't think you can trade CFDs in an ISA. In fact spreadbets are basically tax free CFDs so I would just pick a decent spreadbet provider. ProSpreads I think are pretty good. John.

Level 1 data and trading in pence or dollars

Dear Catt, Thanks for replying. You can't hold dollars, but you can trade using the dollar order book. I'm always fully invested in my ISA, but if I want to sell some of my PHAG and buy some PHAU then I can sell it through the dollar order book and create some dollars and then buy PHAG through...

Level 1 data and trading in pence or dollars

I trade PHAU and PHAG (ETFS Physical gold and silver) in ISAs and SIPPs with idealing.com. Although level 2 is vaguely interesting all that I really need is live prices in order so that I can see where to place my limit on the other side of the spread. i-dealing.com are offering this for £66 a...

    Trading in ISA's

The only account that I know that offers direct access within an ISA is i-dealing. I have been very impressed with the customer service I have received from i-dealing, well to be honest from a chap called Gary Duckworth - I don't know what the rest of them are like. You are right that it is not...

    Trading in ISA's

    1. As far as I am aware they are all free of stamp duty, but I would not bet my house on it. 2. Yes you pay a single account management charge. So best to bring all your ISAs together. 3. Prices in different currencies are handled behind the scenes either by the broker or the marketmaker - I'm...

    Trading in ISA's

Sure, let's assume for the moment that cable is 2.0000 and that you have a dollar account with $40,000 of cash and dollar priced shares. To hedge this account all you need to do is buy 1 GBPUSD spreadbet. At the beginning with cable at 2 your account is worth £20,000. If Cables falls to 1.9999...

    Trading in ISA's

Catt, Thanks for the info. I use i-dealing for direct access in my SIPP and ISA and I am very pleased with the service. It's good to hear that it is also reasonably priced. The only thing that surprised me, and it makes perfect sense now, is that when doing direct access in an instrument priced...

    Trading in ISA's

Yes i-dealing offer direct access within an ISA. I think the cheapest dealing costs you get at the moment are about £7 one way. I think the name is Hoodless Brenan or something like that. John.

When can a SB firm cancel a contract

Wow - what a can of worms. It might be worthing creating a list of known tricks for the Knowledge Lab so that spreadbetters can be more aware of what might go wrong. I have certainly learned that trying to arbitrage prices with a spreadbet company is not a long term business position. Even if...

When can a SB firm cancel a contract

I placed some contracts with a spreadbet firm - not mentioning any names! and a few minutes later I was phoned up by the SB firm and told that they were going to cancel the trades. The price feed they were using had gone down. Is this legal? Thanks, John.

How can I find tom next rates for XAGUSD

Does anybody know I can get the tom next rates for silver - they are traded on the interbank market - OTC. I just want to check the daily financing charge used by my spreadbet broker who has been charging me From 5/5/6 until 16/5/6 .00146 From 16/5/6 until 26/6/6 .0038 From 26/6/6 ...

    Spreadbetting for others

RedDragon, I have to confess that I don't trade in a "normal" way. I use spreadbets as a tax free and geared form of traditional investing. I have a certain amount of capital and make a percentage return on that. If I want to make more then I have to have more capital. I'd rather the thread...

    Spreadbetting for others

Thanks for your helpful comments J o'C. The Investment Club is a good idea - but I belong to one already and so I know that there is absolutely no way that one member can be renumerated for their services to the club - it all has to be done for free. So a good solution if I wasn't looking for a...

    Spreadbetting for others

After a bit more research I'd like to split my question into two. 1. Could the FSA argue that I am spreadbetting for others by accepting loans from family members and using the cash to spreadbet? 2. Would the taxman want to charge income tax on my thank you gifts to those that leant money...

    Spreadbetting for others

Thanks for the suggestion Tim - I don't want to magnify my work load three or four times though.
