    Software/Spreadsheet for recording trades

I used to use a spreadsheet but am currently using https://www.stockportfolioorganizer.com and can highly recommend it. If you only want to track the current value a spreadsheet is free and fine for the task. But as soon as you start adding dividends etc it becomes to cumbersome.

What market do you trade? NinjaTrader is pretty popular around the world and highly regarded.

    Has anyone tried this?

The problem with these neural network and genetic programming software packages is the tendency to curve fit. Many years ago I tried programs like TradingSolutions, Neuroshell, Adaptrade etc. Spent countless hours and weekends and finally made something that I thought I could trade but...

    Software/Platform recommendations for beginner

You can also try NinjaTrader. Seems to be what everyone I know uses. But MetaTrader is also pretty good. Don't think you can go wrong with either.

Question - website/software to see what and when the big guys are buying/selling

I don't think such a thing exists. Companies usually make announcements when there are large changes in holding I believe. I think the closest you can get to something like this is to watch the orders in the market depth and track the large transactions. Not sure it would be that useful though.

    Free Trading Software

It takes a lot of time learning a software and getting good enough to test your ideas etc. Also a lot of the free options have major limitations. If you are serious about trading I strongly recommend that you do a bit of research and buy something. Since you haven't specified what markets and...

FAQ Which Books should a Beginner Read?

Agree with foroom some of the best stuff is free on forums, youtube and the internet. Many years ago I purchased many books from guppy, tate, bedford etc. The only things that were remotely useful and stayed with me was money management. The rest is useless and will not make you a better trader.

    Position trading stocks

To me TTWO looks like it has tanked. I have never seen a moving average crossover strategy win except in a strong bullish market.

    Trading Platforms

I have heard that metatrader is pretty good and flexible. There is also NinjaTrader that seems to be pretty good. If your broker is supported by both platforms you should try them both to see which you like the most.

If you are after technology stocks for investments then look for stocks that have a monopoly in their corner of the market. Like Google, Microsoft, Facebook etc

    Desktop PC or laptop?

Nothing beats a 24 inch monitor, comfortable chair and an ergonomic keyboard. I much prefer my desktop to my laptop for actually doing stuff.

    Help with day trading

Lots of good advice here. Day trading is very hard and you are competing with retail traders with big money to burn on fancy systems and analysis. I would suggest lots of practice paper trading before you burn through your cash day trading.
