Moving Averages, the good, the bad and the ugly

Thanks for your input darktone, your chart certainly makes a lot of sense, and gets the point across, I used the same technique on multiple instruments. Something else I used to I like doing when using a single MA's, drawing support and resistance lines while looking for a drop in momentum. My...

Moving Averages, the good, the bad and the ugly

Hi Tim, I agree with what you said, I don't see much value in the indicator as indicated, most of the 10 combinations did not even come close to just buying and holding. So, the point I am trying to make is that,I don't really think they offer much value, as is. Your comment about the trader...

Moving Averages, the good, the bad and the ugly

Hi Darktone, I hope I understood you correctly and address your question. For the double cross MA strategy, entry is when the short moving average crosses above the long MA, and exit is the opposite. The base strategy does not apply any profit targets, it just uses MA cross as an exit...

Moving Averages, the good, the bad and the ugly

This is going to be a long post, it relates to the efficacy of Moving Averages, (MA's). I have been fascinated with MA's for about a year, and have most likely spent more than a couple hundred hours investigating them. It's so easy to find systems based on MA's, whether it be simple, double...

    Why do people trade indices?

Sound advice, and a pertinent question, thanks, I am new to the forum, but have a little experience, first investment in 1995, this is what I love doing. Anyhow, this is what I meant with the numbers... this is the monthly SP, Win %, is just the W/L ratio. Sum %, is just total gain or that...

    Why do people trade indices?

I have looked at the 80 cycle and found it very interesting, I have yet to wrap my mind around the implications of the result, need some time to mull it over and churn out some stats. I have come across the idea that investing at certain times of the year, meaning months are better than others...

    Why do people trade indices?

:cheesy: Thank you for this, I appreciated your input - all valid points. Regarding the cyclical behavior you mentioned, what were your findings? Are there months, that are indices, tend to perform better or worse? If so why?

    Why do people trade indices?

As per the title, why do people trade indices, what is the logic behind it? Is it because they are less volatile than stocks? Is there any edge associated with trading indices? - other than the liquidity.:?: Is it because there is correlation between indices, be it domestic or international?
