I mentioned this in a similar thread...i believe making a living from trading is very difficult and not suitable for everyone. In my opinion, anyone (almost) can develop the necessary skills and discipline, but not everyone is willing to dedicate the time and effort. It's an on-going process

Mot of the trader's i work with are between 25-40. However, we only work with experienced trader's so I imagine they started in their early 20s. Also have very profitable traders 45+, so i don't believe there is any correlation between age and success as a trader.

I can't speak for all prop firms, but where i work, trader's are required to provide a type of guarantee or bond beforehand, unless trader has a successful proven track record. This is to offset initial software and data costs that are passed through. Our traders' strategies range from scalping...

Great post and great research. I also suggest you consider remote and offshore prop trading firms as well. Most of the prop firms i know (including where i work) do not offer any training. Only operate with experienced, professional traders.

Hello, have you checked out Interactive Brokers? I personally don't have an account with them as my trading activity is more compatible with trading with a prop trading firm. Prop firm model also works for swing trades but not long term investing as you have mentioned.

You can find lots of research material, however, most of the good stuff will be paid content. I think MarketWatch is a good free source, so is Seeking Alpha and Zero Hedge and Morning Star (again, good stuff is paid content).

Paper trading stocks after hours? Maybe if you trade a market that is open while its "after hours" in your time zone. For US Equities, most paper accounts follow regular market hours with a 20 minute or so delay on the quotes.

I only trade US equities, but use Sterling Trader Pro and Fusion.
