    Probability Mystique

Should see around 100 times as many false positives as correct positives, so probably not worth doing. I guess you could do it more than once if the inaccuracy is random rather than systematic. (i.e. if people show false positive at random, rather than certain people being particularly...

    LIFFE slowdowns

Two on euribor this week - first on the LTRO, then another yesterday morning on the sources story. Any word from the exchange on these? I'm guessing it's caused by algos, but it's a bit of a pisstake when you're waiting a few seconds to see whether your orders are getting filled/pulled properly.

What's luck got to do with it?...

Probably not. Long run profits come from making bets with a positive expectancy, and the more of these bets you make, the more profit you make in the long run (law of large numbers etc.) Furthermore, why does it matter that you'd stop trading after what might be the biggest winner of the...

    SupRes Musings

Why not just draw horizontal lines at price levels which have been significant in the past? As for "alerting you to a sideways market" - look at the chart - if price starts in the bottom left and finishes in the top right, it's going up. If it starts in the top left and finishes in the bottom...

    Amplify Trading-my journey

I doubt it's a massive risk, otherwise they'd presumably be far more selective in their hiring. No offence intended, but from the sound of things they'll take anyone who's willing to pay - if there was a big risk involved, they'd probably be taking on far fewer trainees, being more selective...

    Linux & Ninjatrader?

Thanks for bringing back this year old thread - are you saying that 2GB is excessive (tbh memory is so cheap nowadays that you may as well get too much), or that 2GB will not allow vista to run smoothly (I've been managing very well for 18 months)?

Created my own little system for trading - rate out of 10!

A lot of people would argue that a good strategy will consist of less than one indicator.

    Chaff Futures

Surprised no-one has mentioned spreading chaff against wheat - the correlation is rather high, so this approach allows you to remove the wheat element, leaving you purely exposed to the idiosyncratic chaff price movements.

    Trading for a Investment bank

Speaking of which, you'll almost certainly get a bigger cut of your profits in a prop firm than a bank.

    Trading for a Investment bank

From the sound of things, prop would suit you better than an IB. You'll have far less freedom in a bank, and they're less likely to be doing the same kind of trading that you have experience in. The best way into an IB job is an oxbridge 1st and a lot of interesting things on your CV.

    London prop Traders /locals

The thing that all these companies have in common (apart from the legions of 1 post wonders who defend them) is that they "hire" anyone who is willing to pay the training fees, so if TCA are getting the wrong people, everyone else will be too.

    Best Thread Potential setups

This is pretty much impossible to answer consistently - it varies from second to second. I've attached a screenshot of the FTSE ladder - I don't normally watch it, so no idea how typical it is, but the important thing is knowing how this all works. Basically, the numbers in the right hand...
