    Does anyone have a link that provides a detailed explanation of how to read a Schedule 13G or 13G/A filed by hedge funds? Or can anyone provide some insight into the details? I have the gist of it down but am still unclear on a few areas.

    I'm pretty certain TD Waterhouse allows option trading, you just need to be approved for it. Usually covered calls only requires level 1 approval. You should double check with your broker. I haven't used them personally so I can't be certain but I know that TD Ameritrade allows options trading...

    I haven't used either but I have heard good things about Bernie Schaeffers options service and Motley Fool Options. I'm not sure how successful either service has been but they might be worth checking into.

    To short you need to borrow shares from your broker, if your broker doesn't have them available you could go a long put. You could buy a put with less risk then shorting outright. Although with a put you could lose your entire investment...

    If you sell the Aug 20 2011 75 COP covered call you will receive a fee from the buyer of the option, called a premium. The sale of the call obligates you to sell 100 COP shares at the strike price of $75 by the expiration date of August 20st 2011, regardless of how high the stock price climbs...

    How do you decide which stock to buy?

    Before you buy a specific stock I would recommend watching it for a few months, or even paper trading it for a bit. Just to get a feel of how it trades and what kind of range it trades in. I seem to do best when I just observe for a few months and pick my entry point more wisely.
