Mechanical Trading Systems The Way to Trade?

I too trade 100% mechanically (Dow futures), every hour that the market is open. I could probably make a lot more if I put in the time and work to learn trading from a master, but that's not what works for me. I want to be able to leave my time AND emotions out of it. I am a professional...

    profit comparison (futures traders)

I divided the profit per month by the MAX. number of contracts I trade, which is 2, to arrive at the profit per contract per month. In your case Sal, the figure would then be £233 per contract per day x 22 trading days (average) = £5,126 per contract per month. 10 x my figure when converted to...

Best Thread Featured Quick reference for real trading profit. Tips that work

I can't believe nobody's mentioned this yet: backtest, backtest, backtest. Hone your strategy on historical data. Then forward test it, before ever committing a cent to the markets.

    profit comparison (futures traders)

Hi, I am wondering how my profts (per contract per month) stack up with others. I have an automated system trading the YM (paper-trading for now). I am curious as to how this compares to other systems, both automated and manual. I'll go first: I make an average of $1000 per month per...

    your ' trading Edge '

My edge is a completely mechanical system derived by empirical analysis of years of backtesting data. My instrument of choice is the YM (mini Dow future). It trades 22 hours a day, completely automatically, via IB. It never gets bored, tired, impetuous, impatient, fearful, or greedy (unlike its...

    Mechanical System Statistics

I am forward testing a Dow (YM) -based system. It is purely mechanical - no technical indicators or behavior changes in response to market conditions. It has been developed and tuned from 18 months of historical YM data. It has been in forward testing for 5 weeks now. Max. drawdown is about...

    good books on trading

Hi, Can anyone recommend any good books (for a relatively new trader) on TA, as it applies to futures trading? Thanks

Automating your mechanical trading strategy with a broker

What nobody seems to have mentioned is, what hardware/Internet connection are you using to run an automated trading system? I have 6 Mbit DSL from AT&T, but it is about as reliable as a chocolate fireguard. Definitely not a trading-grade (or anything-grade) connection. Which gets us into the...

    Minidow - intraday data

I got him (disktrading) to send me a sample of tick-level data for YM. The only problem was, the time included hours and minutes but not seconds. Seems to me that for a scalping-type strategy, you can't get by without knowing the seconds. A minute is a long time. Anyone had any experience of this?

    simple Java charting

Hi, I am looking for a simple Java charting program, for viewing historical intraday futures data (tick level). It should import from a .csv file. I don't need many technical indicators or chart types (line will suffice). What I would like, though, is the ability to embed symbols for trade...

    slippage on e-minis

Thanks guys. Know what you mean about if you got the direction right your limit order may not be filled. Dumb question: is a tick the same as a point with futures, Arb? Shout out to Leeds - used to live there (now in Chicago)!

    slippage on e-minis

What is the average slippage on trading e-minis (particularly YM) ? I am looking at using IB. Thanks
