I have answered my own question by trying it out. Yes, that does work. Although on my first attempt, the sell order was filled slightly lower than what I wanted (but saved me getting burned anyway).

As a new trader, assuming we did give a c**p about the election, what kind of effect would we expect the election to have on the markets? I'm sure each sector surely must have an "opinion" on the election results, or fear of the potential results and react accordingly?
