Hello Guys,

I would like to try and start a hedge fund.

I have a friend who is running a successful algo on Indian Equities (currently is in India) using (cash and futures) and wants to set up in London as DMA to Indian is now open. We are looking for a way to set up cheaply in UK.

Does anybody have any advice how we can do this? We need a fast computer/interenet, broker with Indian DMA. Can somebody suggest how we can set up in UK? I was thinking of using Schneider trading to use their desk space etc (this is very expensive way). However can we set up ourselves in an officer elsewhere and do this cheaper?

How do we set up this hedge fund business idea?

Regards,

James

others can probably advise better, but if you're setting something up in the UK you'll almost certainly need to be FSA registered.

There is no "cheap" way to do this, although a lower cost option might be to use an "umbrella" firm who offer hedge fund incubators. Firms like Kyte and Marex do this.

or set up as LLP. Depends who your investors are really.

KYTE do not deal in Indian Equities...

Mindset,

In what context are you "institutional"? Strange you're asking about "setting up".

Simple curiosity.

"Depends which hat I wear". Does "institutional" preclude the prosaic?

Mindset,

I wonder why? Does 'transparent' mean anything?

I studied Plato/Socrates for three years; if you have any queries please don't hesitate to ask (I enjoy helping superiors).

If you have wasted 3 years of your life studying that crap then that would explain a lot.

Mindset,

Maybe I should have studied Evasion. Peristence was a susidiary subject. In what context are you institutional?

Why on earth set up in a high tax jurisdiction ? try caymans, t&c, Dubai, Vanuatu, Antigua, Anguila Hong Kong etc - less tax = more profits & less admin but do get unprofessional advice on the nuts & bolts first

You still have to declare it...

I think that Hedge Funds don't have too many regulations because every investor has to be worth at least £1 million. Also, they have to be able to demonstrate a regular income of more than 200K PA for the past 2 years. I'm not sure Hedge Fund is the way to go on a startup, unless you're connected.
