Hi all,

For those that follow my trading Journal over at Forex Factory (http://www.forexfactory.com/forexforum/showthread.php?t=5174) sorry for the double post, however, I had some requests by some FF traders there for me to put together a manual for trading my Bollinger Squeeze method. What was to be a 3 page summary became a 21 page manual that I hope helps others to understand the process I go through when placing trades.

I have attached it here to this post in the hope others will find it useful, and even better, can provide feedback, corrections, constructive criticism and expand on its ideas. It is primarily used on the currency markets, but I can't see why it cannot be used on other instruments. I know there are some great minds here, so I thought I would post it for ridicule.

I have also attached the Metatrader 4 indicators talked about in the manual.

Cheers
Akuma99 ;)

Just like to say good for you, posting a document like this that is frank and honest. I hope you get some constructive contibutions. I think it has been put together in a well structured manner, and merits further input.

Have you read any of the books by Chande ? One way he differentiates between a trending and sideways market is to compare an MA of and ADX with the ADX itself. If the fADX is above the MAofADX and rising, then you have a trending market, if it is below its ranging/chopping/sideways.

Don't know if that would be faster or as 'graphical' as using the RMMA that you have there, but it would certainly be less subjective.

Just my few pips worth, good luck.

thanks rogerha, exactly the kind of input I was hoping to get here :), I haven't heard of that method, although have used ADX in the past, I will google it and see what it is all about :)

Hey Akuma,

I follow your thread on FF and am most impressed with your work. Hope you get the recognition you deserve. Thanks for sharing.

Good Job

Although your particular strategy does not coincide exactly with my own, I must complement you on a very well presented and professional piece of work.

There are many trading books around that retail at £50 plus and are not even half the quality. I hope we will see more of your work soon

Bugger I should have charged £50 ;) ... not a problem, it was as much benefit to myself getting it all out on paper (well virtually) as it seems to be for others.

This is a very impressive piece of work and ironically puts many of those systems which cost ££
to shame.

I'm sure if anybody makes successful trades they would not be adverse to a small consideration in your direction or in the direction of a charity of your choice?

best wishes

Thanks for the kind words rols, if anyone feels that need, please send it to the nearest disabled charity to you, they need it more than any of us, do let me know though as it would make me a happy chappy.

I am no expert, market maker or trading guru, just a trader trying to beat the game like the rest of us, perhaps it does highlight not to take those supposed "experts" at face value.

Volatility Squeeze

Hi there,
I haven't posted to this site for a while as I have been in the process of relocating from the UK to Switzerland. Now that I am up and running again, I came across the below link which is a trading strategy developed by a guy called John Carter of www.tradethemarkets.com obviously plugging the YM.

http://www.cbot.com/cbot/pub/cont_detail/0,3206,1180+26251,00.html

Whilst I understand all the logic behind the strategy, if you listen to the video clip for the eSignal version on www.tradethemarkets.com, which they are trying to offload at USD 399-00, in order to calculate the histogram plotting, he uses Bollinger Bands and Keltner Channels coupled with Momentum, and also the Average True Range with some kind of Linear Regression technique using Moving Averages. Has anything ever bought this study and willing to divulge the mathematics behind plottiing the histogram or have an inclination or how to combine the last three? Its really bugging me nôw.

I tried to open "Not So Squeezy Indicators.zip," but received an error message stating that the zipped file is corrupted. I'm using IE6.0 browser and Windown XP (Home edition). Any ideas?

Not sure if this helps at all but here are some links:

I've been interested in this as well so if you figure out the momentum histogram please post it.

That was! Thnks ...

It is worth noting that Akuma99 is now trading Price Only using trendlines to test standard TA patterns.

So, although the above document really is excellent, all Akuma now uses is a price chart with a couple of trend lines.

Right you are nine, I rarely bring out this chestnut for trading these days despite it being a nicely profitable system in itself. I trade of price alone these days, with more success, but thanks for keeping things open :)

If you want squiggly lines on the chart this is the one. Multi coloured spaghetti on a plate.

The system is beautifully presented but is no Holy Grail, due mainly to the lag especially in volatile markets.

It took me five years to realise that indicators, mostly, are surplus to requirements. After all they are by their nature - indicative.

Regards to Akuma and his excellent site.

Me too only a bit longer. Indicators indicate. Train your eye to pick out chart patterns then remove almost all the indicators from your system.

Anyone from the original posters still here?

I've been trying to trade a the squeeze, with no success so far. I just read the "not so squeezy" method and it does indeed cover more than usual TA books would offer.

If Akuma is still somewhere : have you read Phillipe Cahen's take on volatility and squeezes?
