It seems quite rare to do it, thus; seems that those who do so prefer to keep their mouths shut.

I am using a fully automated EA with my MT4 platform. It performed well for a week but last week went ape and lost half my account. Lucky it was still only a demo account.

What do you use ?

Alright; what system were you using, and what was your money management strategy? How much do you wager per trade? Was it 5%, or more? How much of a downgrade were you prepared for?

Me, I haven't even started, yet; I'm trying to learn what to expect. what were your expectations?

As stated I use MT4, a free platform. There are hundreds of free indicators and EAs. The one I used last week cost $15. If I could programme well I would stand a better chance of making a profitable one, I guess.

There are expensive systems you can buy from companies like Biocomp and Ward systems. A lot of work must have gone into both. I bought a copy of the former years ago but it wouldn't quite make consistant profits.

They are both US made and have loads of upgrades and add-ons, all of which cost more. I have had a look recently but it looks too expensive for a realistic chance of consistant profits.

There is a technical thread here by arryex who uses and talks knowledgely about chaos-hunter.

If you find a goodie please return the favour and let me know - thanks

P.S. loads of scammy EAs too on the web too but do you want to shell out $xxx to find out ?

What motivated you pay money for something that lost you half your account? Demo or not, that interests me greatly.

The people selling automated systems, why do you think they choose to do that rather than just trade it themselves?

Genuinely interested in your thoughts on these two issues.

It did well on test so I bought it. It started well but then suddenly and unexpectedly blew up. It bought so much, the budget was all used up. I have changed the settings so it may yet go on to profits.

You tested it for a week and felt that was sufficient to justify using it and paying for it.

What about the second question, the one asking why you think a developer of a winning automated system would sell it rather than just trade it? Any thoughts on that?

Personally if I had a winning system I would use it but others differ and are only in the business of selling tools, just like in the ole gold rush days.

Again, I ask my questions about your methods. Did you back test? How much?

You can't expect too much from a $15 system.
I used the MT4 backtest system and it looked good. I was testing it on a demo account when it blew up.

I trade a fully automated program. It makes $, so, no it is not and will never be for sale. Backtested to 1997.

Why would I sell it?

no such profitable EA would free for share, they will surely use it for private only. as commercial EA, it sound ridicilous for selling a profitable system, why dont they just use by themselves instead selling it at cheap bucks.
i'd rather to build my own ea based on my trading system. and i've been do this for past 4 years, 2 years on research try made a proper design of trading system, forward test, evalute performance, enhance.
after the logic part are done, next challenge is the EA build. it took years to made a proper code programming match my needs. and yet again, most time are spend at forward test while evaluate, add enhancement setting, another forward test.
fyi, a forward test are both done with demo and real account.
i dont have any idea what the purpose of an over backtest, to 1997 ??? dont over backtest your EA it waste of your time, better tested on real market price, tested an ea on 'dead' market price would be give you invalid result, backtest are mean only to check your ea logic run propperly or not, and got a raw set up for ea before tested in real market price.
my past months i'm on next challenge, test and research which broekrs are supported and well suit with my ea system.

my suggestion is, have a faith with your manual trading system, dont get flatter with commercial EA performance, it well build design for marketing purpose only and made by advertiser not by trader!
let me remind you all : EA, expert advisor, should be a automatic version of profitable system build based on manual trading performance, a long run research one. we can build a profitable EA only by idea and logic thinking only.
regards

EA; what does it stand for?

Wow--seems given the difficulty of an automatic system, just a manual one seems easier.

or they are broke .............never trust machines with your life or your money ;)
