Dear Traders,

I have a challenge for you (doing an experiment :smart:)

Platform:
SaxoTrader
Account Value
1.000.000 - Demo Account
Time:
4 hours

What is the best way, best strategy to make the most money in this amount of time? I was thinking for this to happen I should use algo trading for this experiment. However I was not able to find out how to write algorithms that will work with SaxoTrader. (for mt4 for example there is a lot of material)

So what do you think?

I am looking forward to hear the best way and if it is algo trading can you advice how to do it in SaxoTrader ? and how would the best algorithm look like ?

Remember the goal: grow account value as much as possible in the 4 hours period.

Vlad, you don't say how long you have to prepare before you take this challenge. Presumably you focus on algorithms so that you can run them on many different markets? Or are you restricted to one market?

Basically your question is simply "how do I make money in the markets" re-formulated, but interesting.

What is the prize?

Hi Adamus,
There are no restrictions, anything can be traded whatever is available on the saxotrader platform.
Yes question is how do I do algo trading on that platform and what would be the best algorithm that will make the most money in a 4hours period with trading with 1.000.000$ demo account value.
unfortunately there is no prize
I am interested in the results -> final account value after the 4 hours

Vlad, it seems then that you might be out of luck since the HFT algorithm traders don't swap their code with each other in public, and the only people who are swapping trading algorithms in public are swapping code that doesn't actually make any money - at least not in the long run. The best you can do is find something that is working right now and use that. With only 4 hours of trading to be done, hopefully the success will carry through.

At the end of the day though there is something illogical in what you're assuming (that it can be profitable). There is nothing so clever in either algorithms, 4 hour periods, a million dollars or a Saxobank demo account that guarantees making a profit. Or are you basing your calculations on trades without slippage, bid/ask spread or commission? It doesn't work like that.

Surely you've heard the urban myth of the HFT firm whose new software coder started testing a system using the live account instead of the demo account and lost twice the firm's whole capitalisation before he'd done an hour's work?

you have given only one factor , profit so I assume you don't take risk due account, since no risk taken due account, no money management is a rule no.1 ;) maximum number of lots, trade on 5 min chart ;) this is how a guy have won a nation wide competition organized by one of retail mt4 brokers, won a porsche 911. he had thousands of % of return after few weeks. lottery.

Yes Tuscan very true :D lottery :D

but I wouldn't do this as a trading behavior as for me risk management is very important.
But this time is a different experiment :)
The only thing is, I would like to do this automatically, and catch very fast movements, but I don't know how I can do it on the saxo platform (not using normal orders but some algo)
Does anyone know how to do it on the saxotrader?

"Or are you basing your calculations on trades without slippage, bid/ask spread or commission?"

cost of doing business needs to be taken into consideration. I know it's no magic formula and there is a risk involved that could wipe out the account, but I still believe that in a 4h period the account value could be 1mil + with a good algo. But either way I am interested to see the final result and to analyze after that. But yes it's a bit hard for me to brake the mystery code :D or find someone that would tell me how to do it.

Thanks guys and wish you a nice Sunday

Theoretically, it may take days, weeks or months to develop system that makes money, by people who are experienced professionals. Practically, small % of their systems is doing the job, but anyway everything is down to good trades so you can try. Just wondering whether your unpractical guidelines are worth your effort.

well said Tuscan.

Vlad, building profitable trading strategies; takes years and years of research; and the lazy personality trait is not welcome in this domain.

the fact that you are asking this question; indicates you have no clue.

let me rephrase your question:

"t2w fellows: am going to perform a heart surgery that will take 4 hours. Can you please tell me quickly how to cut the m0therfnker and fix his heart; but please; i need make sure your trick does not kill the guy"
