Recommended Trading System Software

I have just purchased the Jack Schwager Trading System Course. The key objective is to train you to be totally self-sufficient in designing and testing your own trading system which suits your personality/style.

I am relatively new to trading and I would therefore appreciate suggestions for software which you can use to develop your own systems. In the course Easy Language is used and I am unsure which software allows you to use this.

If someone can recommend another peice of software, perhaps using another language then this would be appreciated.

Price is a consideration as I have already spent too much on training materials!

I currently subscribe to ShareScope and TC2000.

I personally use Genesis Financial Trade Navigator, because in my opninion Genesis' TradeSense is more intuitive than EasyLanguage, and it requires less programming skills.

If you want to get an idea about the programming language of different software packages, then you should buy the magazine "Stocks and Commodities". Every month they feature a trading system, and they publish the code for this system for all major software packages. This way you'll see how easy or complicated it is to program a system using different packages.

You may wish to check out Amibroker as well. Has 3 yahoo groups for support, has a comprehensive range of functions with more added regularly and is US$149 or US$229 for the real time version.

does anyone know of any programs you can buy that is the same as optionsedge.com(the one you have to subsribe to monthly )I would rather buy the program ( or similiar ) then be charged montly fees

I am not familiar with the Schwager course you took, however, I do like his books. He has solid ideas about testing systems, and the Market Wizards series is a good read.

For manually creating strategies, Amibroker (www.amibroker.com) and WealthLab often receive favorable reviews. I've not personally used either (and, access to WealthLab in the U.S. is very limited since it is owned by Fidelity). However, they are frequently mentioned as being decent products with good support.

For creating strategies automatically you might be interested in StrataSearch (www.stratasearch.com). It can use TC2000 data, which it seems you might have . This is the software I use for my EOD strategies.

None of the packages I have mentioned are free, although I think they offer trial periods for no charge.

An earlier suggestion to read Stock & Commodities is a good idea. Not only do they publish code, they also do reviews of software that can give you a basic idea about different packages.
