Hi

Does anyone know of a facility (web site) that I can 'plug in' a technical strategy of my own and back test it?

I can probably do it on Trade Station or eSignal if I bought one of them, but I was wondering if there was anywhere else.

Thanks

If you want a really effective back-test facility, just post your system/strategy here...it'll get the treatment all right!

If it survives a t2w member review - it'll survive anything!!!!

(It also means you get others to do the donkey-work.)

Yeah,

I have been working on my emotions and trading psychology. I am sure I can get through the wildest Nasdaq swings now without flinching too much, but I really don't think my emotions could stand up to the T2W 'constructive criticism' treatment ;-)

No, I was really being serious!

The vast majority of t2w members will give the most sensible and reasonable review of any system or strategy that anyone cares to put up. Some will be more tactful than others in exposing what they consider to be areas of weakness, but that's only their lack of personal communication skills, not a lack of good intent or valuable experience.

You can do this on Wealth-Lab at:

http://www.wealth-lab.com/

It's free to sign up and test your system on US stock/tracker at a time, including the QQQs. You'll need to code up your system in their WealthScript language, there is extensive help and publicly available systems on the site.

Thanks knorrie, I will have a look at Wealth Lab.

Someone else (off the board) suggested:
http://www.ashkon.com/predictor/

I had a look at the programme as they give you a 10 day free trial, but it wasn't complex enough for what I was trying to do.

It lets you try and design systems from their range of indicators, then gives you a report of the profitability (or not) of the system on your chosen stock.

To update anyone else interested in this field...

I found a thread on elite trader which discussed a few systems.

The popular ones appeared to be

Trade Station
Wealth Lab
A few positive comments about http://www.stratasearch.com
And a few folks who reckoned that the only decent systems were ones that they had built themselves.

Since I can't even programme the video recorder...

If you're into the idea of designing systems, this is a great book.

I Back test all my strategies and systems using http://www.genesisft.com/ the TradeNavigator product. A bit of a learning curve but an easy to use coding language. If your system is not too complicated, and you are ok with sharing the details, I can run a test for you.

Hi Greg

I don't have a problem in principle with sharing my ideas with some individuals. As The Bramble pointed out, there are some genuinely helpful members of the T2W board.

I am very grateful for your offer, but the problem I have is that I can probably describe my entry signals, but as for exiting...

My exit strategies are, at the moment, based on what I see and 'feel'. I am more of a chart and level 2 reader than an analyst.

I would need to play around with ideas to try and see if I could get something technical to work.

I have been back testing by eye - I know not avery technical, nor accurate method. And have started paper trading my ideas. That way I can combine my technical entries with my intuitive exits. So far, I am happy.

I am not the biggest fan of paper trading, but am trying to trade exactly the same as with real money.

Though it is probably more accurate to say that I am currently trying to trade with real money the same way as I paper trade, but that is a whole different train of thought :)

Thanks again for your kind offer.
