Starting with Tradestation

Hi there,

I just want to learn about systems trading ans tradestaion.

I don't need current data historic data will be fine to learn on. What is the best package to learn tradestation?

I found this:

Seems a very good price?

Is the included documentation good enough to learn from, or are there books I should consider too?

The first thing to note is that there is Tradestation 8 (owned by Tradestation) and Tradestation 2000i by Omega Research. They are similar because of a common history, but there are differences.

Anyway for lots of free webinars on Tradestation 8.4

For free (and not free) books on Easylanguage (in TS8) etc;

https://www.tradestation.com/support/books/default.aspx

You can also find a load of free pdf reference manuals in the TSsupport site (which also covers multicharts) at

http://www.tssupport.com/support/tutorials/

That should keep you going for a bit and you don't really need to pay for anything at this stage.

If I went down the root of Tradestation8, I would still have to pay for tradestation 8 which is very expensive right? Or is there a demo/student version.

also please let me know which option you think is best? Prosuite 2000i ot Tradestation8.

There is no demo or student version of Tradestation 8.4. It is free if you have a broker account with them and trade the minimum amount per month. Details of their fees are available from one of the drop-downs on their site.

As to which one is best only you can decide that because you know what you want to use it for, how you wish to pay for software per month and how large your account size is.

OK so I am a complete noob, I just wanna learn the system and how to systems trade.

This can be done comepltely off-line using historical data. I don't to take any real positions at this stage.

Based on this which would be my best option?

So I really just want to get my hands on the system as cheaply as possible at this stage.
 
you can sign up with Open E Cry
the demo account costs US$25 per month, which includes
their software platform, which is EasyLanguage compatible,
and realtime data feed.

TradeStation account costs a lot more.

I would think OEC is the cheapest approach.
other than than, you have to buy the software, either Traderstation8 or MultiCharts.

Just to play devil's advocate though:

If I buy the package below:

I will own the package and so be better off assuming I keep it more than 8 months moreover I will be able to sell it when I am finished with it further reducing my costs.

Would this not make this a better option for me?
 
There's 2 approaches to using Tradestation.

1 - use the old 2000 version which is widely available free of charge on the internet, although I believe forum rules prevent me from mentioning were.
2 - get the latest version

If you go with option 1, you have a buggy, unsupported for zero cost.
If you go with option 2, you have a great product, lots of new features and product support.

Option 2 is superior but more expensive.
