Could anyone tell me which of these two platform they would recomend if one is to trade high Freq algorithms.
Thanks

anywhere between 10 and 50 trades a day.

Also, how does Ninja Trader compare to TS and OPen Quant...specially concerned with the order automation

There probably aren't many that know these products in depth.

Give us a high level view of your strategy (no need to give anything away) & I can tell you how well TS will handle it.

Tell us :
1) Instruments traded
2) How many different sources of data you need to make a trade decision - that could be 2 different data feeds or the same data feed in different time frames
3) anything else you consider 'peculiar' or that you think will challenge these packages

I can advise only on viability for TS - but you'll need to give at least high level information.

Hi Pedro,
Actualy the one that I do know and work with is TS. However I trade out od Asia, which TS8 brokerage doesnt cover. So I now have a choice:
To trade:
1) With TS2000i and IB as broker via TradeBullet (TB just doesnt give me any confidence at all!)
2) Forget TS and migrate to Ninja Trader and hook up to IB
3) Do the same as 2) with OpenQuant

I have gone into the forum of both OQ and NT and both have lots of issues with their conectivity with IB in a live environment.
I am a little bit frustrated...I think there is a business opportunity in having developers helping people like me making the live trading flawless across many different platforms.

Thanks, just had a look at it.
The problem I see is not so much how capable these trading platforms are, but rather how stable is their link to the broker you choose. Grom reading forums in the different platforms, there seem to be a lot of complaints when a startegy is 'live'. I have no idea which one of these plaform (TS, MultiChart, Ninja, OpenQuant) has a more robust conectivity with IB.

I am using MultiCharts...
It is stable.

In terms of speed, I don't think you will see a microsecond difference between the programs. (although I have not tested it scientifically).

Most of the new generations of programs are written in the Microsoft C# platform. They should have approximately similarly platform based stability.

Do you make any posts here where you DON'T mention mutli charts ?

Can't you spam with subtlety ?

sorry I gave that impression.
I responded to a post that asks about MultiCharts.
That's the program I am using.
I have no ties to MultiCharts, or receive any benefit from them.
To be honest, if you ask me if this is the perfect program, I have to tell you it is not.
It has bugs just like any other program.
It uses EasyLanguage, which is easy to learn. But as any programmer can tell you, it has its limitations. (eg. compared to C# based programs)
The up side is, there are lots of free EasyLanguage indicators on the web, and many people are able to help if you post a question.
The tech support can be a pain some times, but they have also bent backwards to help people at other times.
What program do you use?

Here is my project:

1) trade these futures: ES, YM, NQ, EMD, ED, US, GC, HG, SI, QM, NG, AD, JY, EC, BP, S, C, W.

2) I generate my own swing trade entries for each instrument (so that's 18 entries)

3) I have pre-specified stop loss values, and limit reward + trailing stop levels.

4) I need to somehow automate all this so that it can trade my list automatically.

As for Data Feed, I am so new to this that I dont even know if I need more than 1 data feed...help?!?!

The peculariarity I see is that I need somehow have to be able to add all of these order parameters into a file or some sorta controlled basket with all the related stops/limits so that I don't have to manage any one position manually.

It would also be cool to have it pause or take a breather if any one entry is hit too often and produces losers.

If anybody can suggest: TradeStation, Ninja, or Quant-Trader for this, I am in the research mode now.

Thanks guys.

You can automate this in Tradestation - or partially automate it and you can have a central repository of information that has an overall view of status of all orders. Don't let anyone tell you TS can't do this as I have already done it.

You will need more than 1 data feed - but that's irrelevant if the system is profitable.

If you are a good programmer, I'd say it'll take you 2 months or so to get to know the ELS language well enough to do the above. If you aren't a programmer, then you either need to become one OR partner with one.

Before you go to that expense though - what is it that makes you think this system will be profitable ? I am not saying it won't be - I just want to know how well tested the strategy is and how much you expect the automated version to run without discretionary input.

The swing trade methodology I have been following based on Market Profile analysis appears to be profitable. But only if you can automatically set the second half of the position to a trailing stop. This automates that good old adage: "let your winners run".

From what I have learned so far, Ninja can do it without any programming, just a lot of order setup in the base screens. I have to understand more about TS.

Thanks!

First the data on IB is grouped together so if your doing anything that requires fast forget IB. Speed can be tested at tradelink with the Latency Tracker. Multicharts is getting better and the broker will be Mirus. Great brokerage. I named it. HFT requires professionals not what retail customers use. If it is true HFT forget your home computer.
