Solving Profile problems on Vista

Hi,
Just posting this in case it helps someone who was having the same problem I was..
I have a new Vista laptop and was trying to copy some profiles from Metatrader installed on there. Although quite computer aware, I am new to Vista and was having lots of trouble finding the profiles - on XP they are normally under c:\Program Files\Metatrader xxx\profiles but on Vista that folder contained the original profiles, but none of the modified and saved ones.
I eventually found out that there is a "feature" in Vista which saves application data in a shadow folder (too clever for its own good!) so the updated profiles are actually in a folder which belongs to the logged in user. On my laptop this is
c:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Metatrader xxx\profiles
The AppData folder is hidden, so you have to change the defaults to make hidden folders visible. After doing this, I found all the lost profiles and could copy them into a shared folder for copying to other versions of metatrader or to other PCs.

Hope this helps if anyone runs onto a similar issue on Vista.
Cheers, Paul.

Hi Paul,
Sounds interesting, but does this also apply if your MT4 are not stored in Program Files, but in another folder? Mine are stored in Documents\Forex\broker\etc.

I tried setting UAC to zero, opening MT4 'as admin', turning fireweall off, but to no avail. I still can't copy my profiles from one MT4 to another.

Any more ideas please?

Regards,

Mike
