I'll be headed overseas soon on a military deployment, and won't have any kind of real internet during my time there. I'm spending my time educating myself on finance, and want to have some sort of real-time stock market simulator there with me that I can play with. Googleing has returned one result; RapidSP. While this program definitely appears to fit the bill, the website makes it feel less than legitimate and was hoping that either a) someone on here has used it and can validate it as a useful tool or b) someone has another option for me.

I've searched all over the internet for reviews on the program but I only get the vaguest of returns. One place mentioned that RapidSP didn't show volume, which, for intraday trading, seems to be very important.

As I said, I will have no internet, and basically just my one laptop and a pile of books where I am going. I want to practice technical analysis and would love some suggestions on software that I can use. I'm ready to buy this RapidSP program but at $100, I figured it was best to pose a question to those more knowledgeable than me first.

Try Trading Platforms. NINJATRADER. Brokerage and Data Feed Support. Market Record & Replay (y)

and read http://www.trade2win.com/boards/software/28141-offline-trade-simulation-software.html

You could try the software I've written - Simulator Stock Trading - Home Page.
I've tried RapidSP and didn't find it gave a valid look/feel to the whole trading experience.
I've also tried Ninja.. very good but for true market replay you need to have first recorded the data. It has a "simulation" mode but I've never had any faith in what it generates - and you can't analyze the simulation as it has no historic data.

Is there a link to a demo or trial version of the Simulator software that you have written?

I really admire your determination, and thank you for serving our country. Will you have access to news. You could use excel and manually enter the prices as you find them and draw a little chart. Kind of the old way of doing it, huh? I don't know if you'll receive a daily newspaper or not, or foreign TV.
