Hello,

Does anyone know if it is possible to get data into IB from a data provider and chart it using IB charts?

The reason for this is that I really like their chart formats (I like it simple) I subscribe to esignal but I can't replicate the the IB 60min chart every second update in esignal with losing loads of detail.

Any help would be great

thanks

I don't think that it's possible, although it's easy enough to get IB data out. eSignal prints far more ticks than IB.

Hi there,

I can't seem to replicate the IB 1 hour chart (update every 1 second) in e-signal. I attatched 2 jpegs so you can see what I am talking about. I am of course willing to be educated on this but have spoken to someone on their support desk who told me it wasn't possible although I am not 100% convinced he really knew.

As you can see, there is far more detail in the IB chart - I am only after a real time FTSE 100 index and FTSE 100 future chart, the rest I can get from IB although ideally I would like to take it all from the same source. IB calculate the index themselves for the FTSE andit is too far away from the real time price for my needs. I can get the tick data within esignal but not on an hourly chart with the IB level of detail - unless I am missing something (I hope I am)

any help advice on either the setting I am using within esignal or reccomendation for another data provider much appreciated.

cheers

D

Hi DIN, I don't use e-signal i use QuoteTracker, but the chart you show looks exactly like what quotetracker calls a 'Consolidated Line Chart'. i.e. It is taking data at one-minute intervals and just 'joining the dots'. On QT I can select ' Line Chart' and that looks exactly like the IB chart you post where every tick is registered as the chart rolls slowly forward. Your terminology may differ but i feel sure that you could alter a setting somewhere for your chart type. Failing that try the free version of QT, it works with all the data providers including IB itself, IQ Feed is a good one.

OK I see your problem. With some programming using IB's API you could always do your own live index calculations, and create your own chart, if that helps ?

DIN,

Based on what you are looking for, I would recommend you try the eSignal Standard Chart with a Tick interval (File --> New --> Standard Chart --> Tick). The level of compression you can achieve is greater than that of an Advanced Chart (ironically), so you should be able to see every tick within a 1-hour span, much like the IB chart. Just be sure to use the Zoom feature to limit the span of what is displayed to 1-hour. Notice the chart in the image below, and you will see all the ticks on the futures within the span of an hour. I've also attached a this setup as a Page for your convenience.

As you likely have noted already, the updates for the $UKX-FTSE is done every 15 seconds as sent from the exchange, however the above should solve that charting challenge you were experiencing.

Hi Jay,

Many thanks for that. I am having trouble opeing the zip file, could you send it to me in a differtn format, or if you PM me you could do it via email. Also I subscribe to the real time FTSE100 data - at least I think I do!, so there is no delay. (I hope)

cheers
