Hi All,

I currently have a number of different layouts in MS, all containing a number of different stocks.

I have just modified the default template but obviously when I open one of my existing layouts, the old style template is still used.

What would be the quickest way to update the template (to the new one) in some of my current layouts??

Any help much appreciated,

Chorlton

Firstly, join this group http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/equismetastock/
And now to your question.
You need to delete the old default template.
I dont use MS any more , but by memory it is in the folder that holds your data

I would NOT delete the old default template but rename it.....After renaming create a chart that you would like to use and call it default template....

You need to cleanse the directories by deleting the file that keeps track of all templates used with which chart...if you are using smart chart as a default setting....The folder to be deleted is 'MSSmart' folder......You will find this folder in ALL the folders that hold the data...!!

But as before please back up everything BEFORE you do any of these......

Thanks Zambuck,

I'm currently doing what you are suggesting but when I open up an existing layout, the charts contained within it conform to the old template, even though I have created a new one and saved it as the default.

If i open up a new chart, it appears in the new template, so I know I'm saving it correctly.

....Did you delete the MSSmart directory in THAT specific folder....????

Hi Zambuk,
i am having the same experience with default templates ie. save the settings i like as default but then when i open a new chart or scroll to the next it reverts back to the MS default ?

Before i delete the MSSmart folder as you suggested, what / how do i backup

Thanks A

Create a template the way you want toi see it.....

keep default template as it is unless you want to create a new default template, then save it as default template.

Choose 'smart chart' option under tools and options....then it will remember the chart as you used last time....so any comments you make will remain....

Yes i want to create a new "default" template so that when i load & scroll thru securities/stocks the chart is displayed how i like it automatically.
I have set up a chart how i like it and saved that as "default" but when i scroll to the next chart it reverts to the MS default. Have read & re-read the section that deals with templates to no avail.
The template is saved because i can click "apply templates" and the one i did is there and i can apply it.
Not sure what i am doing wrong but will continue fiddling till it happens as i did with the data import.
Should i delete the MS template ? or is that a bit drastic

Appreciate you're replies

Okey if that's what you want to do then choose following setting under Tools > Options > Chart Options > and select 'Use chart as template' and select 'Keep line studies' and 'change all charts in layout...

With this when you have a chart that is open - which - you would like to use on all other following charts then this is the option to use......

Please read section dealing with following charting options, and remember to memorise it...

DEFAULT CHART
TEMPLATE
SMART CHART
LAYOUT.

You can also create an icon of all templates that you want to appy....Have you tried that??...With that option you can open any chart, but you can apply any template by clicking the icon you have created...

All these form a very good way to use MS...and all those who master it will me able to use MS like a doddle....

Thanks Zambuk, will have another go the way you suggest when i get home later.

Hav'nt come across the bit about creating icons, that sounds dead handy but.....erm...where in the book is it :cheesy:

Seriously though, will look it up later & thanks for you're help/pointers.

Just use this very good feature called 'right click'....

When on the icon bar do that and it will take you though a method of creating an icon for any template or layout you want to use......
