Hi All,
I'm considering my software pruchase options and am considering Metastock as a backtesting tool. I hear that it is limited in the number of bars that it can analyze. Is that correct? Can anyone else give me a realistic apraisal of Metastock's backtesting ability and a heads up on it's limitations?

Thx in advance,
D

I have metastock 8.00 the backtesting was worse than version 7.5, Would advise using alternate software backtesting. I here they have a new version out but I don't care as I won't be buying it.

I had 7.5 and it was ok-ish 8.0 was the worst thing ever.

pros:
the language is simple excel like.
quick

cons:
can only take a single timeframe into account(assuming you have pro and can even do intraday)

limited to simple systems based on indicators that is it doesn't have while, for loops and the like(if's are there but thats another story)

kept crashing.

Its quite popular and there are millions of indicators etc..so it can serve a purpose and you should contact one of the vendors, they should let you have a demo for a week or so.

Is Metastock 9.1 much better? What are the best choices out there for backtesting (other than tradestation)?

Do you have a simple Excel, VBA backtesting tool - I want something like that rather than rely on many indicators/apps?

Thjanks
