Need help with email alerts.

Hello, Can you help me to set up email alert on my MT4 platform. I have Gmail.

I entered all information and still didn't get any single email.
 
A picture might help. Maybe you didn't set it up right. Common error is not listing a port in the SMTP server field. For gmail it would look like this:
smtp.gmail.com:587
OR
smtp.gmail.com:465

Thanks, for trying to help. 587 - got error. 465 - doesn't do anything.
 
Make sure each time you make a change to the email settings you close mt4 and reopen.
What was the error? You need to be a little less cryptic if you want us to help.

OK, I set up a dummy gmail account and tested this on my mt4.
This was a real pain in the a55 with gmail but I got it to work.

1) enter the info as shown using your gmail account and password where it says SMTP login and SMTP password.
2) enter your gmail account in the from line and to line. You should be able to send to any email address but I had trouble. It worked sending to my gmail account.
3) click the OK button, then close MT4
4) re-open your mt4 terminal and try testing it .

I'm hard headed....I had to do this several times before it actually worked. I kept getting "login to smtp.gmail.com:587 failed".( or :465 when I tried that port). I'd hazard a guess they only allow a limited number of logins to their smtp server at any one time so you will only get in if it's not up to the limit. You'd have to call them. If this is true then the alerts won't help you since it will be hit or miss.

So Gmail is not the best solution for the alert email?

I've always had problems using gmail.

You could take a look at SMTP2Go.com, they specifically support MT4. I've used them in the past without problems.

Alternatively set up your own mail server. You need something that handles non SSL connections

The only way I was able to get a "Test message failed" error was to leave the SMTP password field blank. Even an incorrect password didn't give me that message. So, retype in your password, click OK, close mt4, reopen and try again.

I'm running out of ideas here... :(

Did it one more time. this is my expert tab.
 
I was told older builds of mt4 won't work with gmail.
on your MT4 menu tab, click HELP, then ABOUT. A window pops up with the build info located in the lower left corner. It should say something like this: Version 4.00 Build 229
The version must be 4.00 and build should be 229 or greater.

After using my dummy gmail account for a while I am having problems with basic things. I can't get the notifications pops ups, settings don't all work....

You really need to find a different email for what you need.

Can you tell me one that works for sure?
