Is it possible to overlay one indicator at the bottom of the charts with another on FXCM?

eg, if you had a Stochs histogram with one set of values, can you overlay another Stochs histo onto the same histogram, like you can in Metatrader?
(want to reduce using up chart-space with too many histos)

thanks

Hi trendie,

It is possible to overlay indicators in the same space on FXCM's Marketscope charts. Below are instructions on how to do this. I used RSI and Stochastic in my example, but it works the same way regardless of which indicators you choose.

The first step is to add the first indicator to the chart as you normally would. In the image below I have added RSI to the chart first.

That was easy enough. Next, you will need to add the Stochastic indicator (or whichever you want to overlay) and this is where you will choose the location where Stochastic will appear. Whenever adding the second indicator, click on the Location tab at the top of the indicator settings window (see image below). You will need to uncheck the option to "Show indicator/oscillator in a new area below the following areas" and select the previous indicator as the area the new indicator should be displayed. See image below where I selected the RSI window as the new location for the Stochastic indicator being added:

After doing this, you should now have the RSI and Stochastic indicator displayed in the same panel. Here's an example from my chart:

Let me know if you run into any problems.

Great help that Jason mate. Been using your platform for a fair while and was dragging and dropping n all sorts trying to hope this would work.

Perfect !

Good to hear!

Something else you may find useful for the Marketscope charts is FXCodeBase . FXCodeBase has created 1,000+ custom indicators for Marketscope. So if there's an indicator missing from the list that you want, pretty good chance you'll find it in FXCodeBase. And in the off chance there isn't, you can always request it.

Cheers Jason,

Is it possible that you can introduce user defined tick candle/ bar charts say with the option to set user define 1-5000 tick candles or bars etc.

Also , user define traditional candle charts say 1-500 minute custom selection.

Nice promo vid along the lines of ....

I think it will add to the attraction of your platform and draw in even more customers with this extra flexibility that a lot of people are looking for and you'll be appealing to the shorter term traders and longer term, so it's a win, win, win as I see it.

Any way can you make this happen for future release ?

That's a nice line :)

It's possible to set user defined candles according to minutes. You can do this by typing in "h" for hour, "d" for day, or "m" for minute and the number of periods you would like to see in the time frame menu. For example, to access a 3 minute candlestick chart, type m3 into the time period menu and press enter. Marketscope doesn't have the ability to define candles by tick unfortunately, but I'll pass along the suggestion.

If user defined tick candles are crucial to your trading, I would suggest taking a look at the Strategy Trader platform. It has our most advanced charting, and it can customize periods by ticks and a lot more.

Cheers Jason, that strategy trader can handle the custom charts , thanks again.

is it possible to change to timestamps to be changed to be GMT??
the FXCM charts I have are 5hrs behind. (NY time)

while I'm here, where the "volume" data?

and another thing, I am getting apparent data gaps when using tick-charts. (Vaco warned me about this)

I have my Strategy Tester on 100-ticks, and they generally represent 3-4 minutes, but I have a gap of approx an hour, 7:57:21 and next bar is timestamped 8:39:02.
That can't be right, can it?

EDIT: I would use the "chat" facility, but they are "experiencing heavy chat volume", and am told 5-mins wait time.

Yes, this is possible. You will need to change the time zone through the options menu in the FX Trading Station II and it will carry over to the charts. To do this, goto the top left of FXTSII and click on System > Options > General Trading > View format of time fields. Below is a screenshot of what to click on.

Might be an idea to merge this thread into the main fxcm thread so that all subscribed to it can benefit.

Jason,

Big well done to your team for opening up the platform to myfxbook.

Trendie,

tick vol can be added to the chart by right clicking on the chart and selecting show volume.

To display tick volume, right click anywhere over the chart and select "Show Tick Volume" in the menu that appears.

Can you let me know which currency pair or symbol you're viewing that's showing the gap between 7:57-8:39? I checked the charts on my side and I'm not finding it.

Thanks! Took a while, but we were able to help get it done. A big thanks to MyFXBook as well for their help in getting it all setup.

Is it possible with either of these platforms to change the open/close times? So you could for example have four different 4 hour charts on a single pair, one closing every hour?

Neither chart has the option to do this unfortunately. The only way I could imagine possibly doing this right now would be to have it custom coded as an indicator for the chart. Not sure how hard it would be to create this, but FXCodeBase takes indicator requests for Marketscope and FXCM's programming team has recently begun taking basic coding requests for Strategy Trader.

Thanks for the screenshots. Can you try deleting the data through the quote manager. The quote manager button is found at the top left of the platform. See below I circled in red where to find it:

quotemanager.png

Once you have the Quote Manager open, find the symbol and left click to highlight it. After the symbol is highlighted, right click and select Delete Data.

Let me know if that fixes the problem.

I didn't forget about your request :) and the programmers at FXCodeBase have delivered!

A new custom range bar indicator was released earlier in February that allows you to create candles based on specified number of ticks. You'll need to add the CRB indicator to Marketscope and then add the indicator onto the chart. Here's where you can download it http://fxcodebase.com/code/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=3347. After downloading, goto the top of the Marketscope chart and click on Insert > Add Indicator > Manage > Load. After loading the indicator into Marketscope, it will appear in the indicator list.

The indicator will also add a number to the most recent candle letting you know the current number of ticks in the current candle. See image example below. The chart on the right is EUR/USD 100 tick candle. There are currently 26 ticks in the latest candle, and once it hits 100 a new candle will start. The chart on the right is the regular 5 minute candlestick chart.
