What experience is more valuable? Futures or Forex?

Hi all,

I have recently started trading futures after trading equities for a few years. I am a university student and I am going for a career in trading and eventually money management.

At the moment, though, I just need to get my foot in the door with a bank or fund. I am coming from a good university in the UK.

My question is, should I switch from futures trading to forex for the purpose of experience? It seems to me there is a lot more opportunity and usage of forex trading in industry compared to futures.

Thanks for any responses.

FX is very popular in the UK and other parts of Europe, and futures more in America. Futures is the best market in terms of bang for your buck, but that means it's the most risky too.

Hi drtro thanks for the reply,

I was really just seeking some validation that I am on the right route, and not pouring my time into something of lesser benefit. So I will keep at the futures and hopefully it will serve to differentiate me from other candidates when applying for jobs. I am always surprised how many students at my university taking economics/finance courses have no interest or involvement in trading at all - I am yet to find someone else who also trades.

Hey man,

What Uni are you at?
I am also on a Finance course, coming into my final year now.
I didn't develop a great interest in trading until recently, have been trading soem FX on a virtual account but I am still really just finding my feet.
Would be nice to talk, I'm sure we are in similar situations.

It does not matter what instrument you trade, forex or futures. What you experience will be an inner turmoil followed by understanding. You can gain that using anything you chose. The only difference will be the speed at which you go through the experience. That could be your account balance, your learning curve or anything you think it is.

Best of Luck
