Here's email correspondence between me and a lady from that World Wide Talent Programme human resources. Without disclosing names:

She writes:
Dear Mr ....

Many thanks for your interest in ED&F Man and your application for their World Wide Talent Programme. As external talent management partner of ED&F Man we are responsible for the evaluation of the corresponding applications.

In the meantime, we have checked your candidature for ED&F Man's World Wide Talent Programme in detail. Unfortunately, we have to reject your application as other candidates met the defined profile to a larger extent.

We are sorry that we cannot give you a positive feedback. For confidentiality reasons we will delete your documents.

For your future we wish you all the best.

Kind regards,

I reply:

can you give the reason I wasn't accepted?

She writes:

Dear Mr ....

Thanks for your response. We are sorry for your disappointment, but due to the amount of over 1400 applications, we had to sharpen the candidate profile for the pre-evaluation. Therefore, we decided to favor applicants with more commercial experience in the commoditiy trading area.

We wish you all the best for your future.

Kind regards,

I write:

thank you for your answer, last question by commercial experience do
you mean trading for a firm? I have 2 years of commodities trading
experience (trading my own account as a Man Financial customer), if
required audited statements will be mailed to you by regular post, or
emailed.

She writes:

Dear Mr

In fact, we esteem your obvious initiative to start a trading business on your own and are sure that you already collected a good bunch of corresponding experience. Nevertheless, we favoured applications of people with similar professional experiences having also the plus of international working experience.

We wish you all the best for your future and would recommend you to have a look at www.edfman.com from time to time to find other interesting job opportunities within ED&F Man.

Best regards

so folks, what the heck? is this program for those guys who are already in the industry? why bother giving an add in efinancial then? Those guys won't want to join them anyways

efinancial always pulls a boat load of applications for any trading positions. 500-1000 applications isnt unusual.

what was the position anyway? you got a link to the ad?

so - you get the knock back from some scheme seeking people with demonstrable international industry experience, and you get upset and think its professional to bitch and moan about it in public. you'll go far.

try applying for jobs that you have suitable experience for. perhaps the army?

charlie, first thing, you dont have to act on board like you're better than others, or smarter than others, you can take your insults as an entry point to starting your trading tribe... second thing, some good guys offered to look for getting a trainee position at Man, when I apply at efinancial for the position I usually dont go to the web site of the trading firm to see what exact profile they're looking for. Third and last thing , if I was working for international trading firm such as Goldman Sachs, or J.P Morgan, I dont think I'd care getting into some World Wide Talent Programme...

lol - im not being insulting, im just pointing out the bleeding obvious! youre acting like a silly kid just because you got the knock back.

there is no need to criticise edf man just because they wont offer you your 'dream job'

why wouldnt someone from some us bank apply? you really are showing your ignorance.

the fact that you cant even be bothered to look at a web site before applying (as you admit) just shows you are one idle sob. sorry, but thats the truth.

how do you know i am not a director of said company? you dont. do you really think that your attitude is a good advert for companies looking to hire? believe it or not, people have been recruited from these boards into prop trading positions.

actually - im just pulling your leg. i was just testing you. i am the uk md of the plunge protection team. we are a secret government funded prop trading unit based in the vaults of the bank of england where no one can see us. i think you have shown you have all the aptitude for the work: initiative, work hard attitude, and resilience. brilliant! YOURE HIRED! now, bring me my cup of tea......

so looks like now everyone can see you? you can take your secrecy as a starting point of your trading tribe ;)

GJ,

the phrase "starting point of your trading tribe" is likely a reference to Ed Seykotas Trading Tribe.
(even if you dont follow his trend-following principles, his other views on risk analysis are quite good. google "seykota trading tribe" )

Ed uses a form of therapy to unravel "knots", which are psychological or emotional blocks.
although used in context of emotional blocks to trading, they are not restricted to them.
Eds ideas are interesting, about how we experience and interpret the world, and how to overcome these blocks.

i think my fave quote from ed seykota goes something along the lines of 'the markets will give you exactly what you wanted'. its a bit more concise than that, but it basicly means whether you are a winner or a loser, the markets will bring it out/winners expect to win, losers hope to win. perhaps someone else knows it better than i do.

gj makes a good point also. i knew guys on the floor at liffe who re-mortgaged their houses after a drawdown - and still came back into work with a fighting attitude. not something that i could cope with, but it does show the determination and sheer guts some people on the other side of your trade have. of course, there was another guy who jumped of cannon st bridge one lunchtime too (think that was the day they raised interest rates after his xth re-mortgage :D)
