Strengthening Stochastics

Hi I am using a 10 min chart, and using a stochastic crossover as one of my indications to look for an entry on a smaller time frame. I believe it is just the standard stochastic with a K of 5 and D of 3.

Usually it doesn't show false positives, and if it does, there is plenty of room to get out with a profit when you back test it.
However, during live trade a 10 min candle can totally change its direction, and by then I might have missed out on most of the trade if it is a weaker trade. In order to reduce the heat taken on the weaker trades, I need to make it keep its fidelity to false trades, but to show up sooner.

This might be an impossible task, I am just looking for an extra 10 mins, but when I tweek things I keep losing the fidelity of the crossover as an indication. Is this just an inherent pri quo pro of stochastics.

normally, my standard response would be "stochastics are shyte"

but in this case, I shan't even bother ......

#1. Never trade the open bar. Madness.
#2. You’re trying to ‘get an edge’ by using a smaller TF to enter on your trading TF.

Your trading TF IS your trading TF. If you use a smaller TF to ‘get ahead’ of your trading TF then you’ll get more false entries. You’ll also get more early starts which make it look like it’s worth it. But is it?

Your stats will show you whether this is adding more to your bottom line or taking away from it.

Of course, your system may not be workable either way, but that’s a whole different ball game.

1) I agree with this, I always wait till near close, ie 7min on a 10 min if its strong enough.
2) My actual entry time frame is a tick chart, and I use 3/5 mins time frames to confirm the entry

Lets assume that it is a working system that I am trying to make better because like taking as little heat as possible. I know I might just have to accept it for longer term trades, but I never accept that I can't better myself or my methodology. I am more curious if I can smooth out my stochastics without making it lag behind to much on price movements. I figured if there was anyplace people knew stochastics well, it would be here.

imo IF you are going to use stochastics they need to be only 1 part of your setups. remember nothing 'works'. in my experience you should pay attention to the price action on the higher time frames immediately prior to your entries. price action is key

Trolls here? What an ignorant statement to dismiss all indicators on tick charts. I am not here to defend my methodology, only to seek advice to improve it.

As written, I am only looking at stochastics on higher time frames, mainly the 10 min chart. I am not here to defend my trading method, only to improve it. I will agree, price action is key, and ultimately along with areas of support/resistance my entry position is dictated upon.

However the larger time frame stochastics key in when I want to look for entries and how long I will be holding, thus the situation. ATM I am using lower time frames to show strength into a crossover on the 10 min chart.

If you are talking about a genuine tick chart most tarders will laugh if u are using indicators there dude. Be prepared for ridicule.

There are many statements that can apply to most traders. Some things work for others, some don't. For a trader to bash what hasn't worked for him is to only sell himself short on improvement.

Don't say I didn't warn you!
