Handtop Trading

I recently read an old thread at forexfactory.com where they discuss the possibilities of umpc/netbook trading: http://www.forexfactory.com/showthread.php?t=59709

Since I don't have the time and privilege to sit infront of my computer all day long I found this possibility very interesting. My laptop is also just too big to carry around.
What I need is a small, ultraportable handheld computer that lets me access a web-based trading platform, view charts and place trades.

I'm thinking of getting a Viliv X70: http://www.dynamism.com/notebooks/viliv-x70.shtml

This device shouldn't have any problem at all running MT4 or any web-based trading platform. I'm still a bit unsure about the performance though.

If anyone got experience trading with a handtop please share your insight!

I guess there aren't many "Handtop traders" around. I found this guy on youtube though:

Im thinking of getting the Viliv X70 so I can run MT4 on something portable (and easy to hide from the boss). Im still on the fence about if $700 is good for that device or not. My other option is waiting a few months for the EXOPC to come out.
I know by tomorrow if Ill pick one up.
I really wish MT4 would be ported to other OS`s.

The EXOPC sure is a powerful device. It's not that portable though. For me, the ultimate goal is to have the markets with me anywhere I go. At work, at the gym, and even on the beach. Is there any alternative to the Viliv S5 and X70 that's in the same size ? Viliv S5 is the smallest umpc I've found so far.

I just realized that the EXOPC is even larger than the ipad so it may be a bit too big.
I went to a shop yesterday and compared the S5 and X70 side by side and the X70 is still quite a portable size. I think it would fit in a fanny pack or satchel easily. The S5 might fit in your back pocket, however the extra screen real estate on the X70 pushes me toward it. Both seem to have about 5 hours of battery life.
Over here (Japan) the S5 can be had for about US$400 used opposed to $700 (new) for the X70 though.

Ive been looking for the same small uppc, windows based device as you for pretty much the same reasons. I had looked at the Toshiba T-01B (K01) using Windows Mobile 6.5 as a possible device. I tried a MT4 demo on it at a shop and it was quite usable but I wouldnt really want to make entry decisions on such a small screen.
I had high hopes for the HP Slate but now it looks like they may use the Palm OS instead of windows If only MT4 would be ported to Android our options would be alot better.

Looks like the Viliv x70 ex premium 3g is the best option we have at the moment. I think I'll buy one if there isn't anything "better" hitting the market soon. My only concern is that the Viliv x70 is a bit outdated. Is it foolish to buy this device now? Know of any upcoming releases worth waiting for?

I use UMPCs for 3 yrs. Q1 and then Q1U. It has more power than any netbook (which appearead much later and still suck) and many low end laptops.

I certainly wont run X Trader off this thing but anything else should get plenty of power.

I used Vista and now it is W7. Just make sure you have at least 2Gb or RAM.

I bought the Viliv X70 about a week or so ago and it has paid for itself already.
MT4 runs fine on it but I wouldnt want to trade on anything smaller. All my custom indicators run fine too. Im using a wimax dongle to connect to the network and only have a few dropouts when riding the train; they have good coverage in Tokyo.
Its quite convenient to be able to read some webpages, watch some vids etc in between checking metatrader.
Other pluses: its not too heavy, I can carry it in one hand on the train for an hour easily.
Webcam, I walked and skyped with my parents when I took the kids to Tokyo Disneysea

Cons: a bit pricey considering what is coming out soon.
no multi-touch, accelerometer

I wish there were more traders out there like you, I will be on the other side of your trade. Whatever people say yuo cannot intraday trade as effectively with a PDA as you can with a PC/Laptop/Netbook.
Yer best bet is to do online research/ tech analysis in the early part of the day, either set and forget the predetermined entry and exit or use a notification system. Anyone who says else is frankly a bit of a muppet.

Frankly you are a bit of the muppet. Although OP is too but he was right and he is talking about small computer not PDA. There are things are smaller than netbook but equal or even more powerful.

There are also quite a few people who trades 2-3 times a day and that could be done with iPhone (I am not huge fun and dont own one).

So never say never basically.
