Hi,

Whats the best browser to use? I dont like IE, and am thinking of moving to one of:
Opera
Firefox
Google Chrome
Safari

I currently use Flock (old Netscape) which is much faster and stable than IE, but apparently is coming to an end soon.

I use a browser for browsing only (!?!), no trading, data or charts - these are separate dedicated apps.

Thanks,

cc

Google chrome all the way. Faster and more stable than anything else I have tried.

I use FireFox with IE8 as a 2nd source and AOL as a 3rd source. When I need to open 3 separate screens for a single website such as StockCharts.com. I opened the list with the IE, open the 2 separate charts with ForeFox. There are days when ForeFox becomes very slow, I use IE or AOL to get the job done instead.

Chrome is the fastest browser I've used, but FireFox is the most configurable. It has loads of Add-ons to customise and add extra functionality to the browser.

I have never had that issue but it could be down to the way I have it configured. If it is just browsing then Chrome is difficult to beat in my view but I tend to use Firefox for most things.

Chrome is the best for speed, but some sites don't work properly with it. Been trying Safari recently, which also seems pretty good.

does anyone know if you can get add-ons for chrome that will filter mindless advertising gifs and prevent pop-ups? Like FF has?

If it's an older PC have a look at Opera. Recent upgrades to IE and Firefox make them quite resource hungry - browsing on my wife's PC (my cast-off, lol) is like wading through treacle. After some research and testing I put Opera on it this morning and it's like new.

Yes, I had forgotten, but I remember using Opera some years back as a then blisteringly fast alternative to IE, before the days when FF had really established itself. When I moved to FF, it was a further improvement, in function and speed was no worse, possibly better then, but (at least on my older laptop) it seems a bit slower now (especially for T2W!), so maybe I should give Opera another try. I'm avoiding Chrome for as long as possible. I don't trust that lot not to be putting ads everywhere, leaving cookies left right and centre, and funnelling everything you type direct to the CIA :)

Have you got something to hide :)

I find firefox to be great especially with the add-ons I have that stop Javascript and remove adverts which makes it very fast.

I find Chrome loads most things faster, but even when you get rid of the updater that's automatically installed it still seems to transfer a lot of data just after it starts up. Is that when all my secrets go to the CIA?

No, but just because I'm paranoid .... etc. :)

That's an idea. Yes, I'm a big fan of Firefox these days. I downloaded the latest Opera last night, having been reminded about it. Changed a bit since I last used it (removed what I used to find were the most useful hotkeys - page back and forward - you can still do this another way, but one of them requires a shift, which is much less useful. You can re-enable the old ones, but only by way of what seems to be a messy compromise). I guess one could get used to the new version, but actually, it didn't seem any faster for most things, and I'm not sure if there is much to recommend it over Firefox.

I like Firefox...... the addons prevent garbage being loaded on to your machine.. some of the nice garbage is easily victimized by the malware people.....

I can never seem to get Chrome to run without crashing, no matter what I do. If it did work properly, it would be my favorite. Hard to beat FF for the all the add ons, that's for sure.

I think chrome will one day be super....... still a couple problems that I have noticed that are irksome
