Hi
My Pc is slow to boot up and, despite Brodband, can be slow to download pages or open word docs attached to emails etc. I have an out of date Norton security/email checker. Have added AVG which is limited by presence of old Norton - I cannot locate the thing to get rid of it - it isn't in "My Control Panel" bits. AVG aways alerts me to ROOT KIT (after I installed AVG) - I press delete but the alert always comes up on start up.
Phew - can anyone sort that lot out:eek:

If AVG says your machine has a root kit installed, you had better listen to what it is telling you. It means your machine is "owned" lock stock and barrel by somebody else - really the worst sort of malware.

I can't help you 'cause I only use Linux and never have to worry about this sort of stuff. Use Google to see if you can get rid of it, otherwise reinstall Windows from scratch.

[Removing]: "Many hold this to be forbiddingly impractical. Even if the nature and composition of a rootkit is known, the time and effort of a system administrator with the necessary skills or experience would be better spent re-installing the operating system from scratch."
