Am desperate to recover data which was stored on a scan disc "pen". Accidentally deleted files which were of great importance. Is there any way i can recover them?
Was wondering if they would be stored somewhere on the computer i was using at the time or if it is possible to recover it from the pen itself.

I know its a long shot but you never know...
Thanks in advance.

Before you do anything, don't write any more data to the pen. Dependent on how much (if any) data has been written since the delete you stand a good chance of recovery. You need expert advice - hopefully someone here can help - professionally it will cost you.

I beleive there is data recovery software, ( my son works in IT) will try and update you later as he is way in europe at present, hence delay

These 2 free utils may help. Haven't tried them myself. Suggest you AV scan them before install / use.

Freeware file recovery software to undelete files or recover lost files

Free Undelete Utility Recovers Deleted Files, Unerases Lost Data

Recovering the files "should" be trivial unless they've been over-written, normal "file deletion" only erases the front part of the file (known as the "header") so that the operating system can't find it.

Thanks for your responses. The files i've " lost" are text documents as well as a number of video files of a holiday i took in the states. Any feedback regarding the recovery will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

Mick

I've only been in that situation once before and used a program called Undelete PLUS. It's either free or a limited free/trial version. As I remember it worked pretty well, but I was undeleting from the hard drive, not a memory stick. I think it works with those as well though. Search for 'undelete' on download.com.

Used the programme freeundelete which recovered some still photos. Still trying to find the magic bullet which will recover the video files. Thanks for your help so far.

I've had to do all sorts of file recovery operations, and I've had mixed success. One piece of freeware you might want to try is Restoration which can be obtained at Restoration (System Utilities - Backup & Restore). I've found it to be much easier to recover small files such as text files and images, but I've had variable success recovering larger files like videos, because these files are comprised of many small segments, which may often be overwritten.

I you have any form of finance related files it is advisable to use encryption prior to transfer or archive. Nothing can break them after that.
My advice is to have a planned backup and restore tested strategy and follow it.
