I am buying a new trading desktop computer. How much Ram should I put in it?

2 Gigs seems to be the standard now and is more than enough for most trading apps. 800Mhz ram rather than 667Mhz if its a fairly fast computer. Matched 1G sticks if its a dual core or can work faster in that mode (ask the computer shop guy).

I'm going to get a new computer soon and will probably get 4 Gigabytes just to overspec slightly.

Yeah, 2 gig is plenty, and it's best to go with a matching pair of sticks even if you don't have a dual core (which you should).

If you get 4 gigs, they won't all be useable (you'll get 3 + a bit), unless you go for 64bit Vista - which may have compatability issues (it's not supported for NinjaTrader).

im on 64 bit vista with 4gb ram tradestation and it runs like a dream. this thing will keep me going for the next 5 years I recon. Or until I need to by a machine with more humidity proofing for when i move to my desert island - which ever is sooner :D
