When I wsitch on my PC and modem, I automatically connect to the internet.

I would like to make the connection only when I start internet explorer.

How, or can, I make this switch?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
UTB

....What's your set up?

Have you got broadband connected via router?

...When you connect is it via LAN?...

Hi the blades
As I see it you would have to switch local area network on and off, I dont know an easy way of achieving this.
The easiest and crudest way to do this is to uplug the LAN socket from your pc, I can easily do this on my laptop, but the boxes under the desk are a pain:LOL: If you have a broadband router switch this off and on as required, not a very techie solution I realise but I dont know how to switch off the LAN and anyway the way I see it your pc is only accessing a local network untill you start IE, then its on the internet proper...not much help am I:(

I'm not getting this. I have an exterior modem that I switch on when I want to go online.
If I don't want to go on line, I need not switch it on. What has to be disconnected?

How about running/installing "startup inspector" and disabling the options you dont want to run at windows start-up....

S.U.I. is a really good freeware application IMO.

.........Carlos Tevez give us a wave, Carlos give us a wave  ;)

OK chaps - thanks for all the help. I know where the on switch is, then I'm buggered:cry:

Anyway, I have a standalone PC, not networked. In the past (an old set-up) I only connected when I started IE (both diaL up and broadband I think). Now it connects with my modem.

My problem is if I don't use the internet for a while, mu provider (talktalk) disconnects me. I then have to re-boot to relog on - rather than closing / opening IE.

At least, I think that's the problem!

Jtrader - if I remove the appliocation from start-uo, how do I get IE to kickstart whatever it needs to?

And yes, I am thick:LOL:

Thanks everyone,
UTB

SUI may pick up the connection thingy that you want to remove, and you just disable it so that it does not start/pop up when windows does. It'll still work, when you want it to, it just won't automatically load with windows - also saving memory space etc.

I recommend installing SUI anyway, even if it doesn't solve this problem. SUI tells you if an item is needed, optional, unncessary etc. before you enable/disable it.

OK, I've done this (nice programme BTW, and located the offending beast, I think.

If I unclick it, how do I know I'll connect when I load IE. And if it balls's up, do I just re-check it?

PS - judging by your result on Saturday - it's clear the "legal" (yeah, right!) registration of Tevez at the end of the season had no relation to your avoidance of the drop:LOL:

£50M - the price of integrity:devilish:

In IE7 - tools - connections - always dial my default conneciton.

This should ensure that whenever you open IE7, it dials your ISP then (i think!).
