Spyware Detector

I'd certainly agree with their conclusion that M'soft's Defender is rubbish - I recently switched to AdAware (free) and it picked up loads of stuff that Defender had missed.

Looking at these results maybe I need to upgrade to a paid service...

Looks reasonable, though I have still to see any product in this field make a good case for why I should pay them when even with a paid version you sill still need more than one product to get everything, so why not just use a combination of free ones.
I use Spybot, Ad-Aware, Ewido, MS Defender, and SpyCatcher, this combo seems to keep me clean, all combined with sensible net practice of course.
 
RogueTrader - I noticed that from the link in Laptop's thread you can download a trial version of the Max Secure software. I just scanned my PC with AdAware and then again with the Max Secure program and it picked up 10 bits of Spyware that AdAware had missed. It'd be interesting to know if it spots anything on your PC given that you seem to have a pretty thorough set of free programs!
 
it is curious how they all seem to pick up bits of spyware/adware that the others miss. With trial versions I often wonder whether they invent some of the findings, just to get you to sign up.

I'll have a look this evening and post back.
 
I just ran it and then followed the route to where one of the supposed dodgy folders is meant to be, and lo and behold, its not there!

what was it? I'll have a look on my report and see if it's there too.

LOL, now there's a thing, someone once suggested that maybe some of these progs bring their own, tucked away in their quarantine folder and then tell you they found them on your machine.

slashes wrong way round but you get the picture (and I can't find the other way!)


running a search for vvsn (showed up more than once) brought up nothing too.

No, it hasn't spotted anything by that name, and what it's come up with does seem to exist. - whether it existed before I ran the scan or not is another question ;)

I wish, not arrived as yet, just can't see the other damn slashes for the life of me!

A few of the things it brought up were there so I just deleted them and removed the program :LOL:

The only thing with your quote rougetrader is, its from a SPYBOT search & destroy web site. they are going to knock competition. only believe an independent survey

The reason I posted Max Spyware Detector Was, I have had it for 12 months and dew for a new subscription of $29.00.........I must say over the last 11 month and 2 weeks. It has found 188456 worms..The only reason I bought it was, because I could not get rid of a worm called winfix. I had the free ones they could not get rid of it, it always came back. I searched the net for a product that would get rid of this worm winfix and found Spyware Detector, Cut the story short it done the trick I never seen it again.Im not much of a tech guy so I dont know if it get rids of everything, but all I can say, it seem to work for me and it seems to keep my PC clean. I also use AVG Free anti-virus.

But I wont look much it to what SPYBOT search & destroy website says about competition I only look for independent surveys
 
In my experience it is much better to pay for a decent antivirus/antipest package (I use the excellent EZ Antivirus from Computer Associates - which is not expensive), backed up by the best free antispyware software such as Spybot and Adaware

(touch wood) the only worms I encounter are in the garden
