ive just got a new pc (dell) and a new graphics card.

i have been testing it to get it ready etc but have hit a snag and dont seem to be able to sort it.....

when i open a new window on my brokers platform, it opens on the other monitor or the other screen. this is a pain in the butt for the way i like to trade/have my layout etc. there are several ways of opening the windows i need - from a drop down menu (problem - opening in the wrong place), or clicking on an icon (problem - no window at all! i see a flash of an outline, but no window anywhere)

anyone know what to do? i think there should be something in the device driver software for the video card, but i cant see anything.

cheers

just the 2 monitors - since my post, i have found an option that dictates what window EVERY new windows will open in - this seems to solve the main problem and all my main brokers windows now open where i want them to on the right screen. but it also means EVERY window now opens in that monitor - a bit of a pain but there we go! (i dont tend to adjust quote windows much during the day and they are all contained within one application workspace anyways)

the only slight bother is that warning windows (order abort, cancel/fill confirms etc) still pop up in the other window. anyone know how to make sure all windows from application 'a' open in monitor 'a', and all those for 'b' open in 'b'?

ideally i want the 2 monitors to be separate like they were on my last system - but the person who devised that set up isnt in business anymore......

Hi charliechan
looks to me like you need to download the full graphics card software from the card company or the cards installation cd as it sound like the card has been installed with xp drivers only. I have 3 cards on my pc running 3 monitors. xp installed all 3 no probs, but 1 card running 2 or more screens may need the its own software to control output correctly.
just my thoughts on your problem I had a similar problem on an ATI card so I sympathise.
hope that helped a little

in answer to your last post drag the item into the monitor you want it in close it the next time it opens it should remain in the correct position hopfully :cheesy:

cheers don!

i have checked the website of the manufacturer and there were new drivers to install - and i have done so. there doesnt seem to be much difference to be honest! i also found some option to set the monitors up independantly - but there is little difference. i may just rip out ths new card and use my old one. there were no issues then....

i think i am at a stage where I can live now though. im going to try what you say - dragging every thing into the other monitor and closing it there.....at the moment im pulling my hair out with e-signal tech support....

(it never rains it pours!!!) where do they get these monkeys from???

Have you tried the following:

Point your mouse to any empty space on your desktop and right click
Click "Properties" and select the "Settings" tab
You may see options for extending your desktop into two monitors as shown which you may be able to adjust.

yep - i had some trouble with that earlier paul! lol - im almost bold now!!!!

i think i have managed to suss it all out now. i just have to live with stuff opening in the other window until windows learns where i want stuff - if it can do that (re dons comment).

the trouble seems to be there are 2 types of monitor - a 'default' monitor for applications, and a 'primary' for everything else like warning messages which pop up on the other. if life were simple, i would have the default and primary defined as the same monitor. but life isnt that simple because i am by nature left handed (despite writting with my right hand - see i told you life wasnt simple in the world of cc!!!)

anyway, half of the issue is me trying to achieve perfection and having things just as they were on my old system - im sure i will get used to it, and wont want to turn back in a few months or so.......

Ultramon?

I'm not entirely sure it will help resolve your issues but there's a program called Ultramon that allows various monitor settings for when you have 2 monitors, there's a trial demo you can download for free to test it out?
