RIght click on the "Start" button in the bottom left hand corner of your screen, then choose "explore". The folders in the drives are in alphabetical order, so you should find "windows" near the bottom of the list within "C".

If you don't see the "Explore" option then click on "Run . . . " instead
A little pop up window will appear
Type in "explorer", hit return and away you go

Or........

Start

All Programs

Accessories

Windows Explorer

Click on "+" key on left of 'My Computer"

Click on "+"key next to drive C

Then you should see a list of the folders in C in aphabetical order

Maybe s/he means, "I know there is a windows directory, but it's not called c:\windows, and want to know what it is?"

In which case: open a dos box (Start, programs, accessories, command prompt), in the dos box type Set and hit Return. Look for the entry Systemroot= ... whatever that entry points at is the windows directory

Or use the Windows key + E to get Explorer
