Hi I am about to buy laptop 1.6 GHz ,533Mhz 1024RAM and HD60GB.

What do you think? Is it technicaly ok?

Thanks,

K.

In my view it is good enough as I have used a lesser spec with no problem at all.

I use an 800Mhz dell driving a second flat screen with windows XP and only 384Kbytes of RAM. Connection to the world is broadband cable and I use it to daytrade hsi, euro, jpy, gbl and estx on Interactive Brokers TWS.

I run TWS, NinjaTrader, Sierrachart, Excel, Zonealarm, and Paltalk while I trade and occasionally open Avant browser as well.

I suspect that this is pretty close to the minimum specification that is satisfactory for trading.

Yours sounds just fine :)

Kennard, is it a Centrino? If so, it's actually a lot more powerful that it appears - 1.6GHz would be the equivalent of a Pentium IV 3GHz+. See the comparisons for yourself  on Intel's site here: http://www.intel.com/performance/mobile/index.htm

So, the short answer to your questions is, YES! It's more than capable.

I am running an Acer 1.5G centrino 512Mb RAM laptop with broadband. It seems to manage everything I need ie live data, a couple of live charts running & other number crunchers in the background. A 1.6 centrino should be just fine.

Guys,

Thank you very much for your prompt replies. You helped me a lot , beacuse I am not expert on computers.

So thanks a lot and good luck with your trading.

Very nice experience after placing my first post here.

I was going to buy a 1.6 Centrino,But a friend had one and it was noisy ended up buying a Acer Pentium 4 3.00GHz 512 of RAM with broadband 512kbps it works great and very quiet the fan is in the back also there is one on the side but this don't come on much. I run a trading platfrom plus 8 java charts bloomberg.and more.

I have had a few lap tops and this is the best one i have had. I like quiet laptops.

I have a 1.6GHz Centrino, 1GB RAM and an 80GB HDD. I run another monitor off the back of it and I run my trading software, charting package, internet, Excel, email, some games when I'm bored. Never had problems running all this stuff off it. Also, until I bought a laptop I hadnt realised just how easy they can make life, I can vary where I work from in the house, can whack a 3G mobile card in the side of it and trade from the common. When all is said and done I'd definitely suggest a laptop.

I use a Celeron 2.7 GHz desktop, bought it in May this year, specially for online trading. The latest now is a Pentium, but the way computer technology progresses, buying the latest would not be cost effective. Many of the latest features are not used in online trading.

I am depreciating it over 12 to 24 months, I think Windows should come up with a new OS by then.
