i use antivir and sygate personal firewall - these are both free

Use Norton antivirus. Not free but it's the best

Norton is incredibly resource-hungry in my experience, and other (free) AV solutions have been proven to be as good, if not better than NAV. Still, each to their own.

I agree and it is therefore not suitable if you wish to scan a large number of instruments when trading. In my view Antivir is pretty hard to beat and is FOC.
