I have a mate moving into the spare room for a few months and he wants internet access.

I have broadband downstairs in the lounge but there is no phone socket in the spareroom.

How do I install a wireless link or what is the best way to do it and the likely costs?

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Possibly a bit extravagant for a couple of months, but wireless router, and some form of adapter cost maybe £120

Yes a wireless link is by far the best option here and is pretty straight forward. You can buy one online or go to a PC World or similar store. There are several good makes including Netgear and Dlink etc

My advice is avoid DLi nk. Kit has proved unreliable when used through my work.

Buy a Linksys one. You can get a 54Meg one for under £50 from www.ebuyer.com.

Add in a PCI card and I reckon it's £80 tops.

You could try www.2wire.com for the wireless hub, you will also need a pci card for the second computer. The cost through bt is £138.96 slightly more if one of them is a laptop(laptop pci card more expensive). If you are running window98 don't use this equipment as I tried it but it but it would not work, although they say it should work with windows98 .
