Website usage and surfer details

Hi

when a person surfs on a website such as T2W - what information about that user is made available?

I am aware of IP addresses. From these is it possible to then trace the location/telephone line number/ISP of the Internet user?

Don't worry, I haven't been looking at things that I shouldn't have, nor have i been making Libellous comments. I'm just curious.

WIth regard to your IP address, it is generally possible to trace your IP address to an ISP as they have ranges of IP addresses allocated to them and this information is available. It would require the collusion of the ISP to tie the IP address back to a phone number and/or location.

I have no idea about running websites etc. Where exactly would someone who runs a website be able to see the IP addresses of the visitors - where is it visible to the website Manager? what object/mechanism records this information?

A lot of amateur sites use free tracking services such as

http://extreme-dm.com/tracking/

You paste a bit of code on your main page and then the usage stats can be accessed by logging in to the tracker site.
