Share comp is out, fx trading is in. It will get better as it is in its early stages.
Some people will not like it, because some people do not like change. But it is a free site with a free comp. If you don't like it, feel free to find another competition you do like.

New share comp
What a load of rubbish, i agree with the comments of skeltonr9, anyone who has the time to sit for hours shorting and longing could build their portfolio up, but where is the skill in that? bring back a comp where a bit of research into company shares has to be done, been a member of T2 for a while now and i have won a couple of books and enjoyed the comps but come on lets have a comp with a bit of skill in it, even if like me you are just doing it as a bit of fun you still need something in it to keep you interested.

I agree with you guys, the old ftse comp meant you had to try and actually learn something to compete, General trend in the indices of Asia, US, UK, stock selection, news, etc. for most who I've chatted regards the old comp it wasn't so much about winning but about strategy development. As for the cry babies who whinged about penny stocks, and there are a few, yes you would have to maybe be on one to win, yeah so what, it was still a share it moved like any other, just had more kick than a slug from the ftse100....tiger by the tail I'd say, get it wrong it would wipe you out taking no prisoners. Great fun! My only regret is that I didnt "discover" it properly until near its demise
News events and trend is all that fx appears to offer for learning as far as I can see.
My comments dont encompass the old dow comp as I couldnt for the life of me see the point of participating in that one.

Yes, that's true, It was not a competition to teach much on how to trade. In fact, anyone with 50k would buy shares much more carefully in real life, I'm sure. The object of the share comp was to be first and win 500 quid and, if a new chart comp is going to have the same troubles has the old one, you might as well scrub the idea as a waste of time.
I was not able to find a decent chart source, which is why I gave up on forex. Forex and would be forex traders will, probably, have a chart service but share hunters, like myself, won't have and may not want to follow forex at the same time.

The share comp over the last couple of months has been up the wall. I just picked any old share, I have to admit. As far as I can remember the winner of the March one did so because his share was bought for 600+ pence and it immediately went down the same amount, which meant that the price was zero. Neither was it a penny share, but a FT100 one! Sorry, neither I , nor the best naked option traders, can compete with that!! If Sharky admits that such comps cannot be improved then much better to try something else.

Yes, I remember that debacle, cant remember which offending share it was, and well spotted and traded it was too, you have to admit
This new comp has had similar issues with weekend volatility, bagged over 5000 pips until the miseries came out of the woodwork squealing "foul"
Although I've geared up with charts and strategy, the new comp doesnt float my boat im afraid, although im never saying never as its there, its competitive, so i will probably be drawn to it like the moth to a flame.
Like the arcade which also bit the dust in the shake up heartless bunch
On a brighter note I see you have another dot to your credit....well done

As I already have said, not if it can't be run with up to date, accurate, data. There's no point---much as I liked the idea.

Thanks for the links. I'll think about it, but I do trade shares a lot and am not sure that I could do both. These comps can be time consuming and there's nothing more soul destroying than placing a trade and coming back later, only to see that that you've lost a packet--- even if it isn't the real thing.

Well! I've been trading for about an hour and know, already, that this is not going to work for me. I can't do this and trade my shares, as well, and the comp is a distraction. So I am closing the whole thing down until such time as I can concentrate on it.Best of luck

I have often wondered what is the the 'real advantage' to have these competitions.....Don't get me wrong, it can be very useful tool for anyone who wants to test the system etc......And I consider myself as a newbie by the way.....There is too much to learn and it's endless....
We can trade and simulate till cows come home...and when you are trading paper money these is a tendency to be a reckless about it......Car and plane simulation games are one example.....
But it is always the real trading with real money with money management and discipline which is the 'real' game......And there is no substitute for that....
Forex, I have no clue about...And I want to keep it that way for time being.....
