With so much video content being created and posted on the internet these days, I thought it might be interesting to help members create their own content which they can then post in the forums. We've all seen video of traders talking you through their charts. Well creating this content can be done relatively easy and at no cost to you.

I've discovered there are a few different free options available, these are:

Wink: http://www.debugmode.com/wink/
Camstudio 2.0: http://www.camstudio.org/
Window Media Encoder: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx

Now, if any of you folks have some free time, I'd be grateful if you could give them a whirl and give us your feedback as to which you think is the best solution for showing a chart, moving round the pointer, overlaying with commentary - that sort of thing.

Hopefully we can the recommend one of them to our members, and even record a demo of how to download/install/setup and create your first video.

I have used camstudio before and found it excellent the only drawback being there is no edit function so ended up doing several short avi files and piecing them together using windows movie maker

Camtasia (www.techsmith.com), from all that I've heard, is the preferred software for doing screen recording. I've started using it myself and have been quite impressed. Very nice tool. Not free, though. It runs about $300, though you can download a fully functional trial free for 30 days.

DC2000 - Was that camstudio 2.0? Apparently in 2.1 version they removed certain features. I wonder if it's possible to use one program for the recording then another free one for the editing. Would be interested to know if either of the alternatives have some means by which to edit the recordings.

Thanks John - but if there's a free alternative, that does the job, that would be the best way to get as many people as possible using it. Has anyone tried any of the suggestions above, if so - tell us how you got on!

Thanks Camelot. Can you not just upload them as an attachment to your post? What format are they in?

Any one else had time to trial the various software options I listed?
